About the Role

At AstraZeneca, we are exploring a bold new frontier in medical science: extending human healthspan. Our newly established Aging Research Group is leading this transformative initiative, focused on developing groundbreaking therapeutics that not only add years to life, but life to years.

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist with deep expertise in data science and bioinformatics to join our dynamic and growing team. This individual will play a critical role in mining and analyzing large-scale datasets to support target identification, mechanism of action (MOA) studies, and biomarker strategy development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and interpret complex, large-scale biological datasets; develop and maintain scalable analysis pipelines.

  • Design and apply advanced analytical approaches and machine learning algorithms to discover novel therapeutic targets and biomarkers.

  • Collaborate with wet-lab scientists to design experiments and interpret data for target identification and MOA studies.

  • Create compelling data visualizations and reports to communicate findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Contribute to biomarker strategy development for current and future drug discovery programs.

  • Actively participate in cross-functional team discussions, providing data-driven insights to inform strategic decisions.

  • Stay abreast of developments in bioinformatics, data science, and aging-related research.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Science, or a related field with 1–4 years of post-graduate experience; or
    M.S. with 3–5 years, or
    B.S. with 5+ years of relevant experience.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience analyzing large-scale biological datasets.

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as R, Python, or MATLAB.

  • Strong knowledge of statistical analysis and machine learning methods.

  • Hands-on experience with NGS data analysis (e.g., RNA-seq, DNA methylation, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq).

  • Familiarity with proteomics and integrating multi-omics datasets.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail.

  • Proven ability to communicate complex data clearly across multidisciplinary teams.

  • Flexible and collaborative, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.

  • Familiarity with public databases and datasets related to aging biology.

  • Knowledge of in vivo models for healthspan and longevity.

  • A track record of scientific publications or patents in relevant disciplines.
