In this dynamic and strategic role, you will spearhead the BBU Health Systems Strategy, creating and activating long-term strategies to overcome system and policy barriers, ensuring optimal care for patients. You'll be closely partnered with both internal stakeholders and external health system decision makers, ensuring that our strategies are aligned and impactful. With a direct link to AstraZeneca’s 2030 Transforming Care Strategy, your work will fundamentally shape Canadian healthcare ecosystems while fostering sustainable business growth.



Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

Reporting to Health System Strategy Head Kim Loria, the Director, BBU Health Systems’ core accountabilities are:

Strategy: Builds and implements TA system and policy strategy aligned with AstraZeneca’s long-term objectives. Ensures enterprise-wide alignment to strategy via collaboration and effective communication.

Innovation: Identifies emerging health system trends and unmet patient needs to drive health system innovation that aligns with AstraZeneca's business goals.

TA Policy – A critical accountability in this role will be the ‘orchestrator’ role you will play in mapping the most impactful policy priorities across the BBU – starting in Respiratory.  You will ensure system barriers are identified, and clear, measurable tactics are identified and activated to ensure progress and results.

  • Integrated Planning and Activation: Facilitates flawless integration of the TA systems & policy strategy and roadmap across multiple functions ensuring alignment and accountability to results. Collaboration with key internal stakeholders, including but not limited to: Commercial, Government Relations, Patient Affairs, Health Systems Evidence, Market Access and Pricing, and Medical teams, to ensure cohesive strategy execution.
  • Innovation Framework: Develop and implement a framework/playbook for health system innovation including partnership identification, health system measurement and appropriate contracting to transition pilot projects into sustainable and scalable solutions.
  • External Engagement: Engages thoughtfully with external stakeholders, informed by health system challenges and decision-maker dynamics.
  • Team Leadership: Lead a team of Regional System Specialists to position AstraZeneca as the health system partner of choice by engaging with system stakeholders and budget influencers, such as Hospital C-Suite and Association Presidents. Develops go to market model for new enterprise role ensuring strategic, value driven engagement.
  • Account Strategic Plans and Performance Monitoring: Create process for strategic account planning for key sites and customers.  Create and manage dashboards to report on progress toward long-term goals, ensuring transparency and accountability to key performance indicators.

Preferred Background:

To be successful in the role described, the following skills and preferred background would be beneficial:

  • 10+ years of Extensive experience in health system innovation, health policy, or a related strategic leadership role, preferably within the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry.
  • Advanced degree in Public Health, Health Policy, Business Administration, or a related field.
    Proven ability to think strategically at an enterprise level, navigating complex organizational structures to drive strategic alignment across various functions.
  • In-depth understanding of the healthcare landscape, including emerging trends, regional health policy, and the needs of healthcare providers and patients.
    Proven success in developing and implementing strategies that drive meaningful change, positively impacting patients, health systems, and business outcomes.
  • Experience developing high performing teams with relentless focus on achieving goals, demonstrating impact and value to the organization.
    Strong experience in leading cross-functional teams and working collaboratively with internal and external partners toward common goals.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills to effectively guide and mentor a team of regionally based specialists.
    Exceptional communication and negotiation skills to engage with partners at all levels, including healthcare decision-makers and industry leaders.
