Senior Specialist, Clinical Logistics
Introduction to role
In AstraZeneca's Cell Therapy division, we aim to impact lives through innovation and excellence in supply chain logistics. The Sr. Specialist, Clinical Logistics will report to the Associate Director and play a crucial role in overseeing vein-to-vein (V2V) logistics for cell therapy trials. This involves managing global shipments, ensuring cold chain compliance, and utilizing analytics for efficient decision-making. This position requires cross-functional collaboration to streamline processes and oversee logistics vendor management.
Accountabilities
V2V Logistics & Cold Chain Management
• Manage and track global shipments of patient apheresis material and investigational medicinal product (IMP).
• Support V2V logistics, COI/COC oversight, and implement contingency plans for temperature-sensitive shipments.
• Enhance cell orchestration platforms and scheduling tools to ensure traceability and milestone achievement.
• Participate in cross-functional meetings to support clinical trials and system enhancements.
Vendor & Courier Oversight
• Collaborate with logistics service providers (LSPs) and specialty couriers to ensure efficient transport and storage of critical materials.
• Manage lane mapping, monitor courier performance metrics, and lead operational meetings to mitigate delays.
Process Improvement & Compliance
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance logistics workflows, reduce costs, and ensure compliance.
• Maintain and update standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and documents related to V2V logistics.
• Lead cross-functional meetings, promote collaboration, and participate in the development of departmental SOPs.
Essential Skills/Experience
• BS/BA or equivalent in Supply Chain, Life Sciences, or Business with 5+ years of experience in Cell Therapy Logistics/Clinical Supply Chain within pharma or biotech industries.
• Proficient in cell orchestration platforms, LSP portals, SAP/Oracle, Power BI/Tableau, Smartsheet, and Excel (pivot tables, macros).
• Strong stakeholder management, comfortable interacting with diverse teams across clinical, manufacturing, and regulatory areas.
• Demonstrates strong project management, analytical, and problem-solving skills to tackle complex issues.
• Capable of working independently and collaboratively, with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Flexible and adaptive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, able to prioritize tasks effectively.
Desirable Skills/Experience
• Master’s degree in Supply Chain, Life Sciences, or Business with 5+ years of experience in Cell Therapy Logistics/Clinical Supply Chain within pharma or biotech industries.
The annual base pay for this position ranges from $92,582 to $138,873. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles).
