Director, US Commercial Innovation - Biopharmaceuticals

As the Director of Commercial Innovation, you'll lead the charge in the US Biopharmaceuticals Business Unit (BBU), driving critical initiatives across Respiratory & Immunology (R&I) and Cardiovascular, Renal & Metabolism (CVRM) therapeutic areas. Your mission is to develop, optimize, pilot, and scale novel commercial capabilities for the US BBU team.
Accountabilities:
In this pivotal role, you'll guide us towards innovative operational methods, identify cutting-edge technologies, and strategically position AstraZeneca for a competitive edge. By evaluating new technologies and standard processes, you'll empower the US Biopharmaceutical organization to seize new opportunities and expand expertise. You'll cultivate strategic partnerships and champion innovation for marketed and late-stage products, going beyond traditional pharmaceutical marketing and sales approaches. Your efforts will improve customer and patient experiences, drive revenue growth, and expand market share. Reporting directly to the Head of US Commercial Innovation, you'll lead the design, development, and management of programs and external partnerships to foster practical innovation across the US business. You'll explore unconventional yet pragmatic approaches that uncover high-value opportunities and convert them into sustainable business models. Additionally, you'll harness emerging trends to meet latent customer and patient needs.
A significant part of your role involves understanding the US health ecosystem's opportunities and barriers for patients and their care teams. You'll bridge unexpected teams to solve challenges in new and novel ways. Securing and handling resources will be critical, ensuring timely execution of plans with cross-functional support. You'll align marketing and sales functions around customer-facing solutions, innovative technologies, and supplier relationships. Collaboration with counterparts from Market Access, Commercial Digital Health, Health Economics, IT, Medical Affairs, Market Research, and related functions will be important to share ideas and resources.
Essential Skills/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree
- 10+ years’ Commercial experience in pharmaceutical, healthcare, or related consulting industries.
- Ability to plan, lead, manage, and influence organizational change.
- Proven project and budget management skills.
- Strong teamwork, collaboration, and negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of and ability to work within AstraZeneca's operating model.
- Demonstrated innovative thinking, novel approaches to creating business solutions, with proven results.
- Demonstrated ability to create and sustain cross-functional collaboration and balance competing organizational priorities.
- Demonstrated financial management, analytical skills, and leadership skills.
- Understanding of AZ brand and sales needs, including knowledge of customer segments, market dynamics, brand strategies, and internal processes.
- Demonstrated understanding of legal/regulatory/compliance requirements and corporate policies and guidelines.
- Experience with technologies and services that shape the current healthcare environment (Health IT, Point of Care communication, Digital health).
Desirable Skills/Experience:
- MBA
- Ability to travel (in some cases internationally) up to 20% of the time.
