The Portfolio and Capacity Management Team sits within the Chief Operations Office in the Oncology R&D business unit, aligned with our vision to drive innovative strategies that transform science into life-saving Oncology treatments for patients.  

What you’ll do

The Associate Director, Portfolio and Capacity Management supports the assigned Oncology function(s) to establish effective capacity management processes, maintain an overview of capacity (headcount) and provide the information required to support critical business processes aligned to the annual business cycle. The role will report to the Director, Portfolio and Capacity Management.

  • Partner with assigned function(s) to understand resource demand and maintain an overview of capacity.
  • Monitor and ensure effective use of AZ capacity management tools to track our headcount, vacancies, drug and non-drug project resource demand and timecard actuals.
  • Monitor timecard compliance and ensure correct use of timecard codes.
  • Perform utilization and capacity analysis, identify supply constraints and provide analysis to senior members of staff to provide a regular view of functional capacity.
  • Work directly with internal stakeholders across AZ to ensure current and accurate information is used in capacity planning.
  • Deliver capacity planning activities including reconciling demand and supply data from internal reporting systems.
  • Support functional demand forecasting through involvement in FTE forecast algorithm development and improvement work.
  • Implement and maintain internal processes to track and monitor portfolio management.
  • Collaborate with capacity management teams on portfolio resource tracking, analysis and reporting.  
  • Represent the assigned function(s) at Resource Councils, ensuring any capacity issues are raised and information shared is actioned and fed back to relevant functional leaders.
  • Participate and coordinate with functional business and resource lead(s), and Finance Business Partner(s) to support the delivery of the annual businnes cycle milestones.
  • Identify and drive improvement initiatives that optimise capacity management processes, including linkage to portfolio management.
  • May participate in initiatives to support other business process improvement projects in relation to the functional scorecard.

Essential for the role

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent educational qualification in scientific discipline
  • 5 or more years of experience in the Pharmaceutical industry or equivalent
  • Strong analytical and data management expertise and experience in providing business and impact analysis to senior leaders
  • Familiar with capacity and / or portfolio management systems
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong skills / experience with Power BI and Microsoft applications (MS Excel / MS Power Point / MS Word)
  • Excellent written, presentation and verbal communications skills
  • Proven project management experience with a focus on delivery
  • Can work independently, with demonstrated ability to engage and collaborate across global and functional boundaries

Desirable for the role

  • Master’s degree, such as an MBA
  • Qualifications in Project and Financial Management
  • Track-record of innovation delivering improved business outcomes
  • Familiar skills with AZ capacity management systems such as CAPIT, MYTIME, PLANIT and RESOURCIT
