Introduction to role
The Lab Insights Manager plays a pivotal role in optimizing the utilization of AstraZeneca's R&D space to enhance efficiency and reduce costs. This position focuses on Ambition 2030 priorities, enabling more agile, lean-driven space and resource allocation for the R&D organization. The Manager will collaborate closely with scientists across multiple departments to map lab processes, understand project workflows, and identify critical lab equipment interdependencies. They will provide actionable insights to the Lab Operations Central Strategy team by leveraging instrument sensor usage data combined with workflow analysis. Additionally, this individual will implement and manage strategies to ensure laboratory spaces are prepared for the transition to KSQ, including cleanouts and optimizations, to help build for future success at the new site. The Manager will also contribute to strategic LabOps initiatives and solve complex issues.
Accountabilities
Provide data insights to enable programs aimed at implementing new lab utilization strategies
Partner with lab teams and LRCs to understand current and future project goals and associated timelines
Process map lab activities down to the bench & asset level to enable accurate understanding of lab usage
Build systems to ensure lab usage & workflow data is accurate and maintained over time
Partner with LIS provider to ensure asset entitlements match equipment criticality based on workflow needs
Identify improved ways of working and build metrics & KPIs to measure space improvements & time back to science
Identify lab space candidates for potential expansion or reduction in footprint
Implement strategies to streamline processes, reduce waste, and enhance value delivery across the organization
Lead lab cleanups ensuring an orderly process for cataloging of equipment, consumables, chemicals, and ancillary items in anticipation of the move to KSQ
Provide accurate data for 2D mapping initiatives
Change Management
Develop and implement change management strategies to build partnerships with R&D teams to ensure completeness of workflow mapping & project timelines
Engage with scientific stakeholders to gain buy-in & ensure that relevant data is collected in a way that minimizes disruption to science
Communicate effectively to promote understanding, value & adoption of new processes
Promote a culture of continuous utilization improvement by providing data to influence CAPEX equipment purchases and instrument sharing opportunities
Contribute to operational and tactical governance team activities as well as skill-aligned strategic projects
Essential Skills/Experience
HS or GED at a minimum
Experience with Microsoft Office
3-5 years of relevant (lab and/or operations) experience
Able to recognize problems & generate potential solutions Knows when to escalate issues
Strong critical and analytical thinker
Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills
Highly organized, efficient, and self-motivated
Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
Desirable Skills/Experience
Associate or bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, chemistry, biology.
Experience with Lean
Strategy setting & execution skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in MS Visio and 2D mapping applications
