This is what you will do:

The Marketing Director is a senior commercial leader responsible for strategic direction on asset portfolio within the assigned therapeutic area. S/he delivers on revenue and profitability goals by leading cross-functional strategy formulation, brand planning, and tactical execution. This is a highly critical role for a seasoned commercial leader with a balance of strategic and operational strengths to effectively lead the marketing team and asset commercialization efforts.

This role reports into Business Unit Head, Hematology, Cardiology & Nephrology. S/he will be a key member of the business unit leadership team.

You will be responsible for:

  • Strategic Direction – Leverage deep understanding of science, market, and the customers to align on cross-functional disease platform and asset strategy for the therapeutic area. Inspire and motivate the organization behind unified strategy for each asset.
  • Marketing Leadership – Set a bold vision for the marketing team and clear expectation for its members. Oversee marketing processes including brand planning, analytics/assessment, budget, and forecasting. Cultivate marketing capabilities to elevate the team performance.
  • Team/People Leadership – Manage direct reports in brand marketing, digital marketing, and key customer engagement teams. Build the team with best talent and provide support and coaching for each member. Facilitate their development, retention, and longer-term career progression.
  • Commercial Planning – Collaborate on development of commercialization strategies on assigned portfolio asset(s). Work with cross-functional teams to ensure commercial input is reflected into asset development. Ensure seamless transition to launch planning and execution.
  • Therapeutic Area Leadership – Maximize Alexion’s commercial presence in the assigned therapeutic area. Establish partnerships with key opinion leaders and shape the dialogue. Effectively and responsibly represent Alexion as the head of marketing for the therapeutic area.
  • Business Unit Leadership – Serve as a senior leader within the business unit with perspectives beyond the immediate role. Drive, facilitate, and/or support key BU decisions and initiatives. Contribute actively to the overall BU culture, talent management, and capability development. Embody Alexion/AstraZeneca values through daily behaviors and interactions.

You will need to have:

  • ≥10 years of progressive commercial experience in biopharmaceutical industry
  • ≥5 years of marketing experience including brand and/or franchise leadership
  • Diversified and balanced experience across commercial functions/roles, asset lifecycle stages, and/or geographies
  • Proven launch and commercialization success as a brand leader
  • Executive presence and ability to set the vision, inspire teams, and exert broad influence across the organization
  • Highly developed leadership and people management skills
  • Ability to translate patient needs and scientific data into commercial strategy
  • Strong financial acumen with ability to manage investment decisions and costs
  • Ability to collaborate broadly and cross-functionally
  • Intellectual curiosity and growth mindset
  • Comfort with change and ambiguity
  • Strong engagement, communication, and relational skills
  • Passion for making a positive contribution to the rare disease community
  • Bachelor’s degree in science or other relevant areas
  • Fluency in Japanese, proficiency in English

We would prefer for you to have:

  • Experience working outside of Japan in global and/or regional role(s)
  • Prior experience in rare disease
  • Fluency in English
  • Advanced degree in business and/or science (e.g. MBA, MS)
