Business Unit Director: Respiratory & Immunology (R&I)

Based in Costa Rica

The Respiratory & Immunology Business Unit Director is accountable for setting the vision; defining the BU strategy, brand-level operational plans to drive optimal outcomes for patients, who can benefit from our innovative medicines and to establish AZ as a leader, for the CAMCAR Region.

Ensure sales forecast and operational budgets are met or exceeded within the therapeutic area at a regional level by inspiring ownership, accountability, initiative and engagement within the entire team by regularly communicating AstraZeneca’s vision, business objectives and performance outcomes.

Responsible to lead and influence FLSMs through modeling and coaching t AZ’s leadership capabilities by creating a climate of trust, so team members can act decisively by clarifying roles / responsibilities and establishing boundaries of decision – making.

Position should be based in Costa Rica or be willing to relocate.

Responsibilities

  • Guarantee the proper implementation of marketing strategies established by company.
  • Provide consistent direction, guidance, and visibility on company compass (strategic priorities, purpose, values, ambition and brand)
  • Ensure transparent, consistent, and open communication with FLSMs and Sales Representatives
  • Establish challenging goals for himself/herself and for each country, seeking to reach goals and company expectations.
  • Develop a straight sense for business opportunities for the territory.
  • Plan and optimize the use of marketing budgets available for the team, aiming at the maximum commercial return. Perform frequent market visits, to have good understanding of business opportunities and potential risks People development.
  • Render information and reports concerning the activities of his team to the Regional Management.
    Participate in Meetings and Conferences that will promote AstraZeneca's products according with CDTI. These meetings will most often involve Product Launches and Updates, Meetings/Conferences set up by the various medical associations, Health Fairs etc. It should be noted that in some instances these meetings/conferences may be conducted on weekends and overseas.
  • Follow up on the synchronization of the team and the KPI performance to ensure good results.
  • Ensure the correct use of company's patrimony under him/her and team responsibility (cars, computers).
  • Be constantly updated on the monthly performance of the company's products in relation to the budget and to make recommendations of the improvement of the performance where applicable.
  • Host and drive cycle townhall meetings.
  • Ensure appropriate and timely recruiting practices working with FLSM and Human Resource Dept. (maintaining grandfathering practices for direct reports)
  • Follow and control special situations per territory, per product and per medical institution (hospital sales, performance) developing specific actions to act in areas of low performance.
  • • Keep an ethical relationship with doctor societies; main customers and commercial partnership in his/her territory with regular visits.
  • Work in accordance with the guidelines set by the Code of Conduct of AstraZeneca.
  • Ensure compliance with the Global Policy on SHE, its supporting documents and the laws and regulations of the countries in which AZ CAMCAR operates.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree, master’s degree would be an asset
  • Fluent in English

Required Experience

  • In depth understanding of CAMCAR Region healthcare system pricing and reimbursement.
  • Previous specialty care experience in Respiratory, Immunology and/or Vaccines Therapeutic Areas.
  • Success leading a small/medium country or large and complex sales organisation/BU with a P&L>$25M.
  • Has developed a market and/therapeutic area/ or brand.
  • Experience leading cross functional teams, developing and building organization capability.
  • Track record of building and managing pharmaceuticalcompany'sexternalreputation with Stakeholders/Government bodies in countries within the Region.
  • Can systematically build a risk management mind-set within a large organization.
  • Drives results that outperform the market by driving strategic, financial and people performance
  • Talent Leader. A demonstrated passion and ability to attract and grow talent, has been a net exporter of talent and can drive a sustainable development culture.
