Business Unit Director: Cardiovascular Renal and Metabolism (CVRM)

Based in Costa Rica

The CVRM Business Unit Director, effectively leads the TA team to ensure the highest level of professional sales and marketing strategy, achieve a market leading position by delivering above-budget sales, growth, contribution and market share within the CVRM TA through directing, leading and motivating her/his team and supporting their effective cross-functional teamwork.

The role is an active, contributing member of the Marketing Company Senior Management Team (SMT). Together with other SMT members, s/he is responsible for the creation and flawless execution of the long, medium-and short-term strategy of the TA and for co-creating a culture of commitment, innovation and entrepreneurship based on company values. The BUD will also share accountability for the leadership, strategic direction, and business development of the local market, as well as for ensuring that the corresponding TA activities within the Market are compliant, aligned with global strategies and sanctioned by the appropriate stakeholders.

The BUD is directly accountable for the success and development of the Therapeutical Area’s Marketing and Sales teams within the MC. S/he drives this through competitive performance, financial P&L management, cohesive global and local cross-functional working, reinforcing the AZ values of culture of scientific leadership and patient-centricity and contributing to AZ’s stated goal of being a “Great Place to Work”.

Position should be based in Costa Rica or be willing to relocate.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the development and execution of comprehensive TA and brand strategy. Leads the definition, design, execution and measurement of all marketing strategies and tactics to deliver on the brands’ objectives
  • Consistently gathers insights, developing KPI’s, and analytics strategy to continuously improve customer experience
  • Supports AZ’s external leadership objectives, identifying and developing strong internal and external alliances for cross functional planning and programs as core elements to create opportunities in the market
  • Maps TA ecosystems across value chain and identifies partners that creates value to provide competitive advantage
  • Utilizes knowledge to make informed, cross-functional commercial decisions, ensuring comprehensive TA plans
  • Efficiently administers resources, including appropriate planning and management of the TA’s P&L and deployment of team across multiple activities to accomplish collective internal and external goals
  • Sets direction for team and standards for success, leading and inspiring diverse, cross-functional teams. Leads and develops sales and marketing teams to drive performance and results, through performance management, talent management and career development
  • Effectively coaches team, delegating responsibilities and guiding individuals to enhance their performance and skills
  • Guides team to ensure that governance is accurate and followed to ensure brand effectiveness outcomes are achieved
  • Consistently displays behaviours related to AstraZeneca’s values of following the science, putting patients first, doing the right thing, and being entrepreneurial

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree, master’s degree would be an asset
  • Fluent in English

Required Experience

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead large teams, including a track record of success leading commercial teams in the relevant TA
  • Comprehensive understanding of the development and commercialization of pharmaceutical products related to the TA
  • Solid strategic thinking
  • Superior communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership of cross-functional projects in matrix environments
  • Sales Leadership experience in relevant TA
  • Demonstrable experience in developing omnichannel customer engagement plans
  • Experience in relevant partner functions (e.g., medical, analytics, access, digital, commercial excellence)
