Introduction to role
The Axial Data Design Expert - Tax will be responsible for designing, managing, and optimizing tax-related data structures, ensuring compliance with global tax regulations, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive tax data integrity and efficiency in SAP S/4 HANA. This role involves defining and documenting the S/4 Enterprise Data Standard, ensuring existing SAP ECC data is fit for purpose at the point of migration. Reporting to the R2R Data Design Lead, you will support the relationship between the S/4 Data & Analytics organization and the EPL team, engaging with cross-functional teams, tax, finance, IT, and external consultants to ensure that the S/4 data design meets business requirements and aligns with SAP standards.
The role will require robust Tax Data Model design experience, solid expertise in designing Master Data Management and Governance concepts along with SAP S/4 Hana and soft skills.
Accountabilities
- Land the definition, documentation, and implementation of S/4 Enterprise Data standards related to the tax data model, including actual data, reference data, and metadata.
- Apply data, process, and object expertise to lead the overall tax data model design for tax processes.
- Collect and share relevant as-is Tax data structures and harmonization assessments alongside best practice to-be Data Design proposals.
- Ensure Tax Data requirements are represented in dependent data object designs by working closely with parallel Enterprise Process Towers and Data Leads.
- Define the change journey from current to future state data design including completion of change impact assessments.
- Ensure that data within the Taxation data domain aligns with the S/4 HANA Data Governance Framework and AZ Global Data Standards.
- Contribute to the development of the S/4 Data Quality Strategy and support its execution.
- Lead the prioritization of data delivery as related to Taxation, reporting on progress to the R2R Data Design Lead.
- Support relationship with current business data capability to ensure alignment with S/4 design.
- Contribute to the development of the S/4 Cleanse and Migrate strategy and execution approaches.
- Support project data migration processes, including coordination of pre and post load business sign-off.
- Assist the S/4 Data Governance team in creating effective global procedures for R2R – Tax data asset governance.
- The role focuses on managing and integrating tax data within SAP S/4HANA to align with business and regulatory requirements. It involves developing tax data models and ensuring compliance with local, regional, and global tax laws. The role includes oversight of tax master data across various objects such as BP-Customer, Vendor, Material Master, and General Ledger to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Collaboration is a key aspect, involving close work with tax and IT teams to configure tax processes like VAT, withholding tax, and transfer pricing. Leading global workshops to gather requirements and design solutions tailored to market-specific needs is essential. Moreover, the role provides support for integrating SAP S/4HANA with other tax processes, including indirect and direct tax solutions.
- The position also involves contributing to functional and technical design documents, emphasizing SAP S/4HANA data integration and tax processes. It requires establishing governance standards in partnership with master data management and SAP build teams. Integration tasks extend to non-SAP systems, ensuring seamless operation within the tax-specific applications.
- Additional responsibilities include liaising with enterprise process leads to ensure tax requirements are met across functions. The role involves steering tax data migration from legacy ECC systems to SAP S/4HANA, ensuring smooth integration with financial and operational processes.
- Finally, implementing standard methodologies to streamline tax data management, improve automation in reporting, and compliance is crucial. This includes supporting configuration and system integration testing related to tax data design and migration.
Essential Skills/Experience
- CPA designation or equivalent with significant experience in defining and designing tax data models in both transactional processing and tax reporting processes.
- Capability to define, design, and implement standard methodology for using data objects within tax processes.
- Specific experience of designing and implementing tax data models across one or more of the following areas: direct tax compliance, indirect tax compliance, withholding tax recording and compliance or tax engines.
- At least one life-cycle project of tax data model definition, design, and implementation in a process and/or technology solution.
- Demonstrable knowledge of how business data requirements support process execution and analytics.
- Data Stewardship driving the design and implementation of Data Standards for a global enterprise.
- Demonstrable SAP working knowledge across transactions and reporting in an SAP environment.
- Good communication and prioritization skills with the ability to influence others to achieve objectives.
- Hands-on experience with SAP S/4 HANA implementation including system configuration, data migration, and deployment.
