We are seeking a Global Medical Affairs Leader (GMAL) supporting our Hematology Franchise to join our team! This person will report to the Senior GMAL for Hematology. The GMAL will lead and develop the strategy and lifecycle management of our assets for Acute Leukemias. This position will work closely with Oncology Business Unit (OBU) Medical peers to ensure delivery of an integrated strategy and indication medical plans, ultimately having full responsibility for the Acute Leukemias assets medical plan. Working in one of our largest tumor franchises, we are looking for someone who will excel in medical plans execution, develop medical affairs capabilities for the medical of the future, bring value to the cross-functional collaborations and be motivated by working with high performing colleagues in an exciting team.

What You'll Do:

Working with other internal teams and colleagues and responsible for development and delivery of key elements of the global medical tactical plan, the key tasks of the GMAL include:

  • Manage multiple projects and tasks and works autonomously
  • Work together with Senior GMAL to deliver an integrated evidence strategy including IISR and RWE strategy
  • Collaborate with Sr GMAL using scientific, clinical and competitor insights to inform and deliver the medical plan
  • Partners with Sr GMAL to operationalize Expanded Access Program (EAP) strategy, if applicable
  • Serve as Medical Lead for Advisory boards including developing a strategic plan for ad boards and other key external experts engagements, shaping the agendas, and working collaboratively to ensure the right stakeholders are included in discussions
  • Ensures GPT & IBT awareness of key external developments (e.g. competitors, data releases, congresses, social media) and articulates the implications to the asset
  • Be an active member of the Medical Integration Team, contributing to key cross-functional discussions and deputizing for Sr GMAL when required
  • Develop an external education plan including delivery of AstraZeneca-led Symposia and other scientific exchange meetings
  • Will manage and/or contribute to Global Medical Projects and manage elements of the asset medical budget
  • Ensures that all Medical and business activities are carried out in compliance with AZ standards, standard operating procedures and external regulations

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Master’s degree in a scientific discipline or equivalent medical/scientific qualifications and/or significant industry and/or therapeutic experience.
  • At least 4 years of experience within pharma/life sciences and/or medical experience (e.g. significant clinical/academic/medical affairs agency roles/organizations)
  • Good communication and presentation skills
  • Experience of multi stakeholder management
  • Experience of leading on medical plans and strategic medical initiatives
  • Ability to influence others without authority
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Good understanding of drug development and commercialization processes including understanding of outcomes research /payer access issues
  • Proven track record to generate, analyze and interpret clinical trial and published data

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Scientific degree preferred (MD, PhD, PharmD)
  • 3+ years in a Headquarters Medical Affairs role or Global Medical/Clinical R&D
  • Hematology experience; this position will focus on Acute Leukemias
  • Country launch experience
  • Documented track record of successfully developing and executing Medical Plans both in terms of evidence generation, scientific communications, and external expert engagements
  • In addition to Gaithersburg (US), this position can also be based in Barcelona (Spain) and/or Mississauga (Canada)

The annual base pay (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $193,281 to $289,922 USD Annually. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
