Global Medical Affairs Leader, Emerging Medicines

As the Emerging Medicines GMAL, you will report directly to the Global Medical Head, Emerging Medicines R&I, and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of healthcare. This strategic position allows you to combine your medical expertise with insights from markets, healthcare professionals, patients, and health systems to develop and execute world-class medical strategies for AstraZeneca medicines globally.
You will be at the forefront of our early pipeline of products within the respiratory and immunology therapy area, acting as a strategic partner and leader across the medical enterprise, R&D, and commercial functions.
Your role will empower medical teams worldwide to deliver outstanding product launches, transform health systems, conduct practice-defining studies, and accelerate AstraZeneca clinical trials. Are you ready to lead the charge?
Accountabilities
- Pre-launch strategy: Deliver prerequisites for an outstanding product launch – strategy, scientific narrative, evidence, external engagement.
- Innovator: Provide strategic input into clinical trial designs and novel endpoints while driving the development of Target Product Profiles and Target Product Claims to shape clinical development programs for future unmet needs.
- Scientific Leadership: Create and communicate world-class medical content and compelling science narratives for products, disease areas, and market-shaping initiatives.
- Evidence: Shape and design evidence needs and clinical studies to differentiate or expand market access for AstraZeneca medicines and support healthcare change initiatives.
- External Scientific Engagement: Drive an ambitious external engagement agenda – partner with global thought leaders, societies, health organizations, and health system decision-makers.
- Business Partner: Build strong cross-functional working relationships across the organization including R&D, Regulatory, Commercial, and Pricing and Market Access to drive successful decision-making across the emerging portfolio.
Essential Skills/Experience
• BSc or Masters with 3-5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry (Medical, Marketing, R&D, Market access roles), or experience working within a relevant health system setting (clinical, pharmacy, pathway design etc.)
• Demonstration of strategic and medical leadership prowess pre- and post-product launch, including ability to define evidence needs, create compelling scientific narratives & strategy, influence & mobilize others.
Desirable Skills/Experience
• Doctoral level degree: MD, PhD, or PharmD
• Deep medical, clinical or scientific expertise in immunology and/or respiratory
• Experience of delivering results in a complex environment
• Strong working relationships with global clinical thought leaders, professional societies and other healthcare industries/organizations
• Proven ability to build internal and external networks and to collaborate
• Evidence generation experience—working on clinical trials or real-world evidence programs

The annual base pay (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $193, 218 to $289,922. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
