We care about sustainability

At a Global level, our sustainability strategy is carried out through three priorities:

  • Access to healthcare – Increasing access to life-saving treatments, promoting prevention, and strengthening healthcare systems worldwide
  • Environmental protection – Tackling the climate crisis through decarbonising healthcare, managing our environmental impact, and investing in nature and biodiversity
  • Ethics and transparency – Promoting and ensuring ethical, transparent, and inclusive behaviour across our organisation and value chain

At AstraZeneca Romania we have implemented local programmes to support these priorities. Some examples include:

Partnering with Junior Achievement, AstraZeneca launched the Young Health Programme in 2012, where we reached more than 200 000 high school students. The focus of the programme was the promotion of healthy lifestyle habits to reduce the risk of noncommunicable diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases, later in life.

In pursue of our environmental protection priority, we made a commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from our global operations and fleet (Scope 1 and 2) by 98% by 2026 as part of our Ambition Zero Carbon programme. To support this ambition, in Romania we are switching to a fully electric vehicle fleet by the end of 2025, therefore reducing air pollution and creating a healthier environment for our communities.

Our new office since 2023 is also an environmental friendly location. Besides providing modern and enjoyable space for work, the building uses electric energy solely from regenerative sources and hosts tens of charging stations for electric cars.
