The US Commercial CVRM organization is responsible for shaping, launching, and executing commercial strategies across our portfolio. To support our future growth, we have an exciting opportunity as Executive Director, Access Strategy. This role is responsible for leading and designing strategies that optimize access to CRVM therapies for patients.

This role is a high impact, high visibility commercial leadership position within AstraZeneca’s growing US CVRM business. The Executive Director is responsible for all strategy and tactics that drive short and long-term value proposition across the portfolio.

Main Accountabilities:

  • Act as single point of accountability for value proposition across four brands of the US CVRM portfolio, while simultaneously, planning for additional brands and indications across six disease areas.

  • Lead a function that develops managed care marketing strategies, identifies promotional pull-through tactics, and works on annual business plans aligned with account and product strategies for growth brands and new production indications.

  • Lead a team of 3 Access Strategy Senior Directors who in turn oversee and lead Access Strategy Associate Directors and Managers. Attract, retain and develop talent; build a highly engaged and inclusive culture

  • Work closely with internal Marketing, Market Access, Sales, Medical, Regulatory, Compliance, Finance and Legal teams to deliver cost effective medicines.

  • Liaise with external agencies, commercial vendors and as requested key customers to shape market access initiatives

  • Ensure payer acumen is provided to brand teams to align customer insights with Managed Market view for the overall brand strategy Partners with Market Access leaders around brand pricing / contracting strategy discussions for the PSP (Payer Strategic Plan)

  • Influence brand value story for customer segments, in partnership with segment strategy teams and customer teams

  • Serve as liaison between Market Access and the brand teams on brand-relevant programs/tactics geared toward payer and intermediary customers

  • Proactive internal consultant to brand teams, advising and influencing them on managed markets issues and helping to incorporate managed markets objectives into brand PSP

Size of Team

  • The Executive Director, Access Strategy will have 3 Senior Directors as direct reports and a team totaling 15 FTEs.

Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or MBA Degree

  • 15+ years of experience within the pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical market; preferably in Payer Marketing, Brand Marketing, Market Research, Account Management, and/or Field Sales

  • Experience in US market access landscape and the legal/regulatory environment for pharmaceuticals/biopharmaceuticals; must have experience with both primary care, specialty care and rare disease assets and brands

  • In depth understanding of local healthcare system pricing and reimbursement

  • Successful experience in leading and developing strong performing teams, collaborator engagement, and the ability to work cross functionally to move key initiatives forward.

  • Proven track record of consistent achievement or overachievement in developing and delivering strategic and operational plans within a therapeutic or business area

  • Strong financial acumen with the ability to assess and drive results and manage large scale budgets

  • Demonstrates strong curiosity and a growth mindset, paired with outstanding learning agility and resilience; consistently anticipates change and leads teams with confidence

This position is located at our Wilmington DE office. When we put unexpected teams in the same room, we unleash bold thinking with the power to inspire life-changing medicines. In-person working gives us the platform we need to connect, work at pace and challenge perceptions. That's why we work, on average, a minimum of three days per week from the office. But that doesn't mean we're not flexible. We balance the expectation of being in the office while respecting individual flexibility.
