Contract Operations Specialist

In the pivotal role of Contract Operations Specialist, you’ll play a key part in enabling access to our therapies through specialist contracting, operational excellence, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

Contracting and Regulatory Knowledge

  • Demonstrate an understanding of Market Access contracts including Wholesale Distribution, Group Purchasing Organization, Buy & Bill, Commercial, Medicare Part D, Medical, and Specialty Pharmacy agreements.

  • Interpret, draft, and negotiate contract terms and language in alignment with business strategy and regulatory requirements.

  • Apply comprehensive knowledge of regulatory frameworks such as Sarbanes-Oxley, audit controls, and healthcare/managed care compliance to contract management and execution.

  • Ensure operational understanding of reimbursement models, chargebacks, rebates, and related agreements throughout contract lifecycle management processes.

Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Supervise and complete complex data analysis: process, monitor, review, measure, track, research, and analyze customer activity—utilization, chargebacks, rebates, and sales data. 

  • Generate and communicate reports and dashboards detailing contract and claims performance.

  • Conduct trend analyses to inform contract strategies and optimize business outcomes.

  • Ensure precision and accuracy in all data analysis, calculations, and reporting.

Technical & Systems Skills

  • Demonstrate high proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Manage and apply contract management and claims processing systems to validate, update, and coordinate customer master data. 

  • Employ analytical tools and AI solutions to monitor contracts, administer claims and payments, and identify opportunities for process improvement or automation.

Business Operations & Process Excellence

  • Effectively manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously with strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Ensure timely, accurate processing and administration of claims and contract payments, adhering rigorously to internal controls, corporate policies, and SOX compliance.

  • Drive a culture of continuous process improvement—actively seek enhancements, recommend solutions, and support operational best practices.

Interpersonal & Communication Skills

  • Communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Build and sustain strong, collaborative working relationships across departments and customer groups.

  • Demonstrate a customer service orientation by ensuring prompt and accurate support for inquiries, issue resolution, and contract clarifications.

  • Use negotiation skills to support contract discussions and strengthen business relationships.

Problem Solving & Critical Thinking

  • Research, identify, and resolve discrepancies related to contracts, claims, and payments, ensuring accurate posting and reporting.

  • Play an active role in cross-functional teams and special projects, providing subject matter expertise and actionable insights.

Professionalism & Compliance

  • Work within all relevant policies, SOPs, internal controls, audit requirements, and regulatory frameworks.

  • Complete all mandatory training and maintain thorough, accurate documentation of processes and decisions.

Other Key Skills

  • Maintain extraordinary attention to detail; accuracy is paramount in claims processing and contract analysis.

  • Apply advanced organizational and time management skills to effectively balance multiple priorities and adhere to deadlines.

  • Demonstrate adaptability and readiness to adjust to changes in healthcare regulations, business processes, and industry standards.

Education, Qualifications & Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 0-2 years business experience 

  • Strong logic and mathematical skills

  • High proficiency with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

  • Outstanding communication, organizational, and prioritization skills

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously

Preferred:

  • Previous pharmaceutical or healthcare business experience

  • Relevant contract language experience and negotiation abilities

  • Experience with AstraZeneca’s business model and contract operations
