The R&D Controllership Team is a focused team that provides reporting and financial control support across all R&D, including activities covering the statutory and management R&D cost base, R&D entities and deal management.

With the beginning of S/4HANA deployment in AZ Group we now have a need for an additional role supporting BAU activities within legal entity and R&D cost controlling.

The Senior Controlling Specialist will support analyzing and overseeing statutory reporting of R&D costs across legal entities within the AstraZeneca Group. The new team member will also analyze data for UK based legal entities, prepare multidimensional reports, and work on existing processes alignment to standard where needed.

The Senior Controlling Specialist will act as point of contact for various Tax Teams, Operational Transfer Pricing, Group Financial Reporting, Finance Business Partners, Project Finance Managers and financial auditors for the areas under the person’s responsibility.

It is expected this role will have additional responsibilities including areas such as leading improvement projects, representing the R&D Finance interests with Group/cross-functional teams, support data preparation for S/4HANA deployment and other ad hoc activities.

A position in this team offers an individual an exceptional opportunity for direct exposure to business issues affecting R&D Finance current performance and strategic initiatives.

The role will be based in Warsaw and report to the R&D Controlling Manager.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities

  • Close cooperation with Financial Controllers within the team
  • Participate in the consolidated statutory R&D costs reporting
  • Understand the nature of R&D costs incurred across legal entities in the Group
  • Understand processes and systems used within R&D SET area and R&D Legal Entities (with an initial heavy focus on UK entities)
  • Understand financial processes behind numbers reported under AZ Group Statutory and Management Reporting
  • Work on “exceptions” elimination in current financial processes
  • Understand the relationship between legal entities within the Group and R&D and other services they provide to each other
  • Liaison with GFS, other controller groups, clinical finance, post deal finance managers and other support functions
  • Provide support and guidance for existing processes feeding into legal entity reporting
  • Be a contact point for R&D costs related questions
  • Work proactively with Finance and other teams to understand future financial information needs and support producing efficient reporting solutions to meet these needs

Requirements - Education and Experience

Essential:

  • Master’s degree in finance with a minimum of 5 years post qualification experience
  • Experience of financial analysis, reporting and forecasting
  • Experience on working with SAP, MS Access, MS Excel
  • Experienced working in complex global organization
  • Cross boundary experience including building relationships remotely and cross-culturally
  • English Language proficiency is necessary, both verbal and written, with the confidence to express clear opinions
  • A track record of continuous process improvement and delivering efficient ways of

working across a complex global organization
