The Compliance Specialist is part of the Global Payment Transparency (GPT) team that is responsible for fulfilling AstraZeneca’s external disclosure obligations across Europe, the United States (US), as well as international countries with new emerging transparency requirements such as Japan and Australia. The Global Payment Transparency team is part of the overall Compliance, Legal and Contracting Operations within the Global Business Shared Services organization, aligned to Finance.  

Working in a complex, matrixed high activity environment, the Global Transparency Operations Analyst contributes to the team’s overall remit by processing high quality, accurate, and consistent payment data, prioritized by our overall reporting timelines, (as captured directly from AstraZeneca’s financial systems and indirectly from external third-party suppliers) that comprises the organization’s disclosure reports.

The Compliance Specialist will be primarily responsible for partnering with key internal and external customers to capture and reconcile data collected both internally through various internal financial or event management systems or externally via third party suppliers who disburse payments and transfers of value on behalf of the company; working within defined timelines as members of the Global Payment Transparency team to create accurate, complete and timely disclosure reports as required by individual countries (for example, across Europe, the US, Japan, Australia).

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct data stewardship or reconciliation processes of internal and external data, including but not limited to determining the purpose of the payments for inclusion or exclusion in a disclosure report, and completing the process within defined timelines to ensure accurate and timely reporting
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to clarify or seek additional information pertaining to identified data issues, including missing data elements (for example, a unique identifier for the recipient) as needed to complete data processing 
  • Contribute and adhere to Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) processes and standards, operating as an additional line of control in performing data quality reviews
  • Acquire an understanding of the basic reporting requirements for each country’s disclosure obligations to assess in data collection, reconciliation and overall accuracy
  • Gain knowledge of AstraZeneca’s internal systems that contribute to a disclosure report (for example, the financial system SAP, the meal and expense reimbursement system Concur, the Healthcare Master Systems, etc.) to aid in the identification of reportable transactions for data processing
  • Contribute, as needed, to other projects or assignments (for example, on-boarding a new disclosure requirement); participating in team meetings, training sessions
  • Support internal and external audits or data requests of payment transparency data as necessary
  • Support driving and embedding a culture of ethics, integrity and compliance in identifying potential policy breaches (for example, a meal cost that exceeds a policy limit)

Requirements

Minimum Specific Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree (Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or relevant field)
  • Experience in finance, auditing, quality assurance/control, SOX, data management/stewardship and/or risk management  
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to handle competing projects simultaneously within aggressive timelines
  • Ability to interpret and use data effectively, understand business context and generate improvement actions
  • Strong ethical, collaborative and influencing skills
  • Experience working with large amounts of data, with attention to detail
  • Excellent computer skills, including data and reporting software programs
  • Fluent command of English

Optional and/or Preferred Background:

  • Experience in or with the biopharmaceutical industry or a consulting firm working with pharmaceutical clients
  • Knowledge of data reporting & analytics tools (e.g., MicroStrategy, Power BI, Tableau, etc.)
  • Prior exposure or familiarity with scripts (e.g., Microsoft Excel + VBA, Python, JavaScript, SQL, etc.) will be a plus;
  • Working knowledge of / experience with payment transparency requirements in Europe (EFPIA), the US (Open Payments or formerly Sunshine Act)
  • Global / cross-cultural experience
