We drive and contribute to optimized clinical drug development programs and access to information and scientific knowledge management.
We are now offering an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and highly motivated individual to join us in the role as Director, Statistical Programming.
This role is a unique opportunity to lead, manage and develop a team of programmers. You will be acting as a coach, mentor, and specialist, overseeing deliverables with quality and timeliness, following established standards and processes. This leadership role requires profound programming experience and excellent industry knowledge to independently lead implementation of programming activities and guide other programmers. You will provide subject matter expertise within the programming discipline and act as a specialist within cross-functional teams to deliver continuous improvement.
This role will be placed at AstraZeneca’s dynamic R&D global hub in Warsaw (Poland), where you will work in an international environment at the forefront of clinical development.
Accountabilities:
As a Director, Statistical Programming, you will provide strategic input to the programming function and be accountable for implementation of statistical programming aspects of the clinical development programs.
Typical accountabilities for this role include:
- Provides strategic, scientific and programming advice and expertise to the team
- Leads, manages and develops a group of programmers, providing guidance and mentorship and ensuring process compliance
- Ensures productive and collaborative team environment and managing team’s objectives
- Provides input to capacity management for all projects in scope
- Contributes to and identifies business needs and plans resourcing accordingly
- Contributes to recruitment and building a team with appropriate skill sets
- Ensures talent development, and maintains own and team knowledge of the latest industry and regulatory requirements
- Accountable for managing contracting staff, and overseeing outsourced projects
- Manages risk for assigned projects by making complex judgments and decisions
- Overall accountability for the quality and compliance to internal, external and regulatory requirements for the delivery of programming aspects in clinical development
- Ensures consistent approach and provides expertise to data standards and its implementation within own function or across Biometrics
- Measures the compliance of and ensures that there is a consistent approach to data standards and automation and its implementation
- Leads and contributes to improvement and organizational initiatives within and outside of function and ensures continuous improvement of the team and function
- Represents AstraZeneca and the Programming function at external events
- Influences/collaborates cross functionally at TA or Biometrics level by providing subject matter expertise
- Collaborates cross-functionally and represents Programming leadership where required
Education, Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Degree in Mathematics (i.e., Applied Math, Engineering, etc), Statistics, Computer Science, Life Science, or equivalent
- Proven programming leadership experience
- Excellent programming skills in SAS (or R) and SAS macros
- Thorough knowledge of the clinical development process and current knowledge of industry standards (CDISC), technical and regulatory requirements relevant to the role
- Demonstrated leadership capability, organizational skills, and proven ability to lead teams towards a common goal
- Ability to influence relevant stakeholders and global teams and provide input to functional strategies
- Ability to develop teams and individuals
- Ability to manage risk in complicated or novel situations
- Current knowledge of technical and regulatory requirements relevant to the role
- Functional strategist

- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing business processes
- Experience in regulatory submissions and interactions
