Data Product Manager
AstraZeneca’s R&D Data Office is an industry-leading enabler of data and AI strategy. The Data Office provides data services, technology, and data products, supported by data and AI policy and governance, to unlock the value of data to drive innovative science.
Working within the R&D Data Office Study Patient Data Products and Platforms team, the Data Product Manager is responsible for setting and driving the vision and strategy for data products within their scope. The data products owned may span enabling IT infrastructure components, applications and toolkits or data products. Working closely with data scientists, data engineers and therapeutic areas across AstraZeneca R&D, the Data Product Manager will uncover and understand customer needs, translating these into prioritized requirements to develop and maintain their product roadmaps. The Data Product Manager defines new features that meet these needs and steers development teams in IT to build changes, ensuring implementation matches customer expectations.
The ideal candidate will combine an understanding of R&D data, application of FAIR principles and technical know-how in terms of applications and platforms. This role will require combining and representing scientific and technical governance requirements to IT team with Senior stakeholder engagement and negotiation.
Typical Accountabilities
- Define and communicate a clear vision for the R&D data and analytics products, aligning with the overall business goals and objectives.
- Based on business goals and objectives create and maintain a roadmap that outlines the strategic direction and priorities for the data and analytics products. Monitor progress against the roadmap and adjust priorities as needed.
- Work closely with data scientists, data engineers, business analysts, and other stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of data products
- Contributing to development of domain-specific data products that align to controlled vocabularies with the wider Data Standards and Interoperability and Policy and Governance teams to enable data product development and integration.
- Ensuring data products are compliant with agreed FAIR principles, data standards and policies.
- Support in developing of integration frameworks within the scope of products.
- Participate in programme increment planning and work with other Data Product Managers in the Data Standards, Interoperability and Governance team and other teams within the Data Office in aligning the strategic priorities, dependencies and roadmap across the Data Office portfolio of products and services.
- Define releases, programme increments and key milestones and manage through to completion.
- Act as a data product lead, working closely with the customer groups, managing enhancements and updates, prioritising new demand and driving the realisation of value from the delivery, by promoting uptake and ensuring relevance and performance of the capability to meet scientists needs.
- Work according to the Agile frameworks to enable the efficiency of incremental deliveries still focusing on the big picture to achieve the strategic goals
Essential
- Hands-on experience from Agile development, preferably in a business context.
- Relevant degree in Information/Data Science, Computer Science, Informatics, IT, or other related discipline.
- Business Acumen (pharma and the life sciences): Understanding of the business domain (clinical studies and products) and industry trends, enabling effective decision-making and alignment of analytics initiatives with business goals.
- Experience of running project in a GxP regulated environment
- Leadership: Ability to lead and motivate a team of data professionals, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
- Needs the energy, experience, and motivation to work across global & functional boundaries
- Track record of significant strategic data project delivery with demonstration of clear scientific and/or operational value
- Excellent communication skills and ability to build strong relationships
- Conflict resolution: succeeding in situations where a high degree of business acumen, influencing and tact are required to find a way forward
- Problem-solving: Ability to identify and resolve complex analytical and technical challenges, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of analytics solutions.
- Travel – willingness and ability to travel domestically & internationally.
Desirable
- Experience of achieving tangible and acknowledged value in a similar position and scale of challenge and opportunity.
- Knowledge of Drug Discovery and Development practice in BioPharma
- Strong Change Management track record.
- Experienced project manager with a great understanding of the project phase and the connection between classic project management and Agile ways of working
