Are you passionate about oncology research and development? Do you want to contribute to life-changing medicines by following the science? Join AstraZeneca as a Senior Scientist in our Oncology Targeted Discovery group in Waltham, Massachusetts. We are looking for a motivated and independent scientist with a proven track record in cancer pharmacology. In this role, you will be instrumental in delivering in vivo pharmacology support, establishing mouse models, and providing critical datasets that impact our drug discovery pipeline.
Accountabilities:
In this laboratory-based position, you will design, execute, and interpret in vivo and ex vivo experiments to evaluate the activity and mechanisms of action of oncology drug candidates. Your research will provide mechanistic insights and efficacy data essential for developing novel therapeutics. Collaborate with cross-functional teams and project leaders to ensure timely delivery and communication of program data. Support scientific publication objectives and stay updated on advances in tumor biology, pharmacology, and cancer modeling.
Essential Skills/Experience:
- A PhD with at least two years or a BS/MS with at least five years of relevant research experience in biology, pharmacology, or a related scientific discipline is required.
- Significant hands-on experience developing and working with advanced in vivo oncology models, including subcutaneous xenograft, patient-derived xenograft (PDX), syngeneic, disseminated, and PBMC/HSC humanized mouse models.
- Direct experience conducting in vivo pharmacology studies using mouse tumor models - including dose-finding, tolerability, pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics (PK/PD), and efficacy studies - is essential.
- Adept at various routes of dosing administration, such as intravenous (IV), intraperitoneal (IP), and oral gavage (PO).
- Solid foundation in in vitro techniques, such as cell culture, molecular biology, immunoblotting, flow cytometry, and ELISA/MSD.
- Ability to work independently, critically analyze and report data, and interpret experimental findings within the broader landscape of drug discovery.
- Strong understanding of drug discovery processes and ability to apply cross-functional knowledge to support diverse project teams.
- Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to communicate findings clearly and confidently in both written and oral formats.
Desirable Skills/Experience:
- Previous experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry, especially within oncology.
- Familiarity with in vivo studies involving antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), combination therapy approaches, and therapy-resistant or immuno-oncology mouse models.
- Experience designing, executing, and analyzing multi-spectral flow cytometry for immune phenotyping.
- Experience training and mentoring junior scientists.
- Thorough knowledge of the industrial drug discovery process.
