Introduction to role

As part of our Global Engineering function, you will lead a team of technical SMEs to deliver the most appropriate engineering solutions to meet AZ’s key stakeholder expectations from an operational performance, safety, and sustainable viewpoint for the lifetime of the facility. GERE has expertise in Project Management, Technical Solutions, Project Control, Built Environment, Compliance, Construction Management, Process Governance, and Corporate Real Estate.
Global Engineering delivers major capital projects across the AstraZeneca network, currently spending around $900m every year to shape the AZ business for the future, providing exciting developmental and experiential opportunities for the successful candidate. Your assigned geographical area will be Singapore, but as a part of the Global Engineering Technical Solutions (ETS) team, you will also collaborate, share and learn from your ETS peers across the globe.
Accountabilities
As the Project Technical Manager, you will:
- Establish our project’s technical direction.
- Ensure the technical scope is aligned with AZ business and project needs.
- Ensure the technical team keeps to the project scope.
- Take accountability for the delivery of GMP compliant, functionality, and robust performance of the technical packages (e.g., process, packing, automation, critical utilities, HVAC).
- Ensure the projects’ alignment with AstraZeneca’s Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) requirements.
- Evaluate the technical competence of Design Contractors and the proposed external team members' qualifications.
- Define and secure the vital GERE Subject Matter Experts (SME) and the required support from global technical functions or local site technical support.
- Act as the Technical ‘conscience’ for the project throughout its lifetime.
- Lead and task manage the SME team.
- Work multi-functionally across the project to build a complete, integrated, compliant process design, influencing partners as needed and highlighting any impact of decisions on budget and schedule.
- Ensure relevant standards are applied (methodologies, tools, concepts, specifications, guidelines, and technical solutions).
- Develop technical performance criteria together with the Client team and ensure these are met during start-up and early operation.
- Post-project completion ensure that the technical learning is collected and detailed.
- Establish effective collaboration and ways of working with relevant partners.
Essential Skills/Experience
- 5-10 years relevant project experience, preferably within the pharmaceutical industry and major capital investments
- Experience of working in a global organization and you are aware of how "engineering delivery" needs to be adapted to take account local differences.
- Excellent communication, customer & partner management, enabling and influencing skills
- Degree in an Engineering or Science discipline with experience in project management and/or project delivery
- Strong leadership skills with motivational ability to empower and direct others in a dynamic and sophisticated environment through change.
- Self-motivated and able to act on their initiative, highly organized with proven time-management and structured prioritization skills.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, be a good communicator (written and verbal), have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to quickly build rapport with others.
- Strong collaborator with ability to create and maintain effective working relationships and willing to challenge behaviors and actions.
- Detail-focused completer/finisher with a results-oriented mindset.
