Overview of the Position:
Reporting to the Director, Payer Evidence, Methods, & Access Affairs (PEMAA), you will be accountable for unlocking the value of our medicines and advancing the field of HTA in Canada. You will construct overarching plans to shape HTA decision-making frameworks and policies, using your expertise in health economics, modeling, and payer evidence development, your relationships within the HTA ecosystem, and your business insight. You will drive impactful change in HTA policies and decision-making frameworks in Canada and supply to the success of the organization by delivering payer evidence that drives positive HTA recommendations for AZ’s portfolio of products.
To support MAP initiatives on a brand and indication-specific basis, you will lead the creation of overarching payer evidence plans to incorporate diverse cross-functional team needs while also delivering critical decision-grade payer evidence. You will build and cultivate relationships within a payer partner network of clinical, academic, and HTA/health economic experts in Canada and overseas. Through this network, you will support the shaping of HTA policies, processes, and economic approaches, resulting in value for pharmaceutical innovation and faster patient access.
This includes exploring a systems wide perspective, incorporating public health care system horizon scanning, evidence interpretation, and sophisticated methods to support your plans. With your health economic expertise, you will provide strategic and analytical thought leadership to make a difference in the lives of Canadian patients.
Responsibilities
- You will lead matrixed cross-functional teams to build and deploy overarching payer evidence plans to shape HTA decision-making frameworks and policies and ensure innovative therapies are appropriately valued.
- You will work with partners within the healthcare system, including HTA experts, health economists, methodologists, and academics to shape advanced HTA methods and devise strategies on incorporating these into pharmaceutical assessments
- You will work with patients and caregivers to understand how to best incorporate patient preferences into HTA processes
- For brands and indication across AZ business units, you will identify payer evidence and HTA process gaps and devise plans to demonstrate the value of our products, focusing on outcomes significant to payers and HTA decision-makers.
- You will provide strategic mentorship to the team of health economists on cost-effectiveness models, detailed reviews, network meta-analysis, survival/statistical analyses, budget impact models, with practical applicability to HTA submissions
- You will work with external experts in crafting specific payer evidence (PayerEv) to support brands, indications across the AZ portfolio, translating this evidence into
- economic value, and supporting publications to benefit the HTA community. You will attend and present at external conferences and meetings.
- You will devise efficient dissemination plans including posters, publications, panels at academic conferences, roundtables, and white papers, as well as embracing new innovative channels such as digital streams, podcasts, and social media
- You will work with Global colleagues to understand, assess, and identify best HTA and health economic practices from other healthcare systems and developing plans on adapting these to the Canadian healthcare environment
- You will act as the project owner when working with vendors on PEMAA related projects
Qualifications/Competencies
- A genuine curiosity about advancing the field of HTA, health economics, and evaluation methods
- Advanced education in a numerate subject (e.g. health economics, epidemiology, biostatistics, healthcare forecasting, management science).
- A strong, diverse, and well nurtured network within the Canadian healthcare reimbursement and HTA ecosystem.
- 5+ years of pharmaceutical industry or health-related/HTA experience involving reimbursement or health policy, or agency/government experience.
- Practical experience with HTA, cost-effectiveness models, detailed reviews, network meta-analysis, survival/statistical analyses, budget impact models.
- Track record of success delivering payer evidence leading to positive HTA recommendations
- A detailed understanding and genuine interest of healthcare systems and reimbursement processes
- A working understanding and interest of payer evidence methods (HRQoL studies, costing studies, SLRs, ITCs, patient preference studies and applications of PayerEv)
