IT Business Analyst Intern - Summer 2026
Role Summary:
We are seeking an experienced multi-disciplinary Business Analyst to join our Artificial Intelligence, Strategy and Innovation (AISI) Information Technology (IT) team within Research and Development (R&D) IT. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in artificial intelligence as it relates to Generative and Agentic AI, project support/coordination, data analytics, and communications. As a Business Analyst, you will play a critical role in bridging business needs with AI enabled technology solutions, ensuring efficient project execution within R&D IT department and with our stakeholder groups in R&D and GPPM (Global Portfolio and Project Management). The initiatives will range in supporting Gen AI and Agentic AI use cases and initiatives across R&D and GPPM.
Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
- Requirements Gathering and Business Analysis:
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, including scientists, researchers, and project managers, to understand their use cases and translate them into detailed requirements for defined initiatives.
- Data Analytics - Extract and Analyze data, drive requirements for PowerBI dashboard, create presentations with meaningful business friendly insight on adoption of Gen and Agentic AI across R&D and GPPM.
- Define and prioritize AI use cases: Conduct persona‑based interviews and workflow mapping across R&D/GPPM to identify bottlenecks and opportunities; translate findings into prioritized use cases with clear value hypotheses and success metrics.
- Design and execute pilot launches: Partner with the Generative AI Product Lead to configure and release features in Studio/NotebookLM or the agentic platform; manage pilot scope, onboarding, and feedback collection; track adoption, time saved, and quality improvements.
- Develop user‑centric enablement assets: Create plain‑language playbooks, onboarding guides, and short training modules for target personas; run AI Learning Lounges and IT AI events to drive awareness and responsible use.
- Corporate Communications and Coordination:
- Serve as a liaison between business units and the IT team.
- Coordinate communication including factsheets, FAQs, and quick reference guides for AI platforms.
- Creating demo/use case videos and templates for end users for a variety of AI tools.
- Project Support and Coordination:
- Assist Agentic AI team members in planning and executing various deliverables using waterfall and agile methodologies
Qualifications:
- Pursuing a degree in areas related to Science, Business, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and/or Technology
- Strong understanding of Generative AI is required
- Demonstrated familiarity with LLMs and prompt design; experience experimenting with agentic patterns is preferred.
- Experience with AgentCore, Amazon Q for Business, AgentCore and/or similar platforms is an asset
- Strong understanding of Microsoft Suite i.e. Word, Excel, Powerpoint required
- Familiarity with PowerBI, PowerApps, Power Automate is an asset.
- Familiarity with Generative AI and Agentic AI tools like ChatGPT, MS Copilot Studio, Google’s Notebook LM is an asset
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including strong plain language skills
- Adaptable and highly organized that can keep and drive timelines across initiatives
- Strong business analysis skills, including requirements elicitation, process mapping techniques
- Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional global teams
- Candidates must have an expected graduation date after December 2026.
- Available to work full-time for duration of the internship
Desirable Skills/Experience:
- Exposure/Knowledge in the pharmaceutical or life sciences sector
- Knowledge of drug development lifecycle, and familiarity with regulatory compliance and data security in the pharmaceutical domain

What to Expect:
This role is a 8-month paid contract position, which starts in May 2026. Our position will be based in our Mississauga head office and allow for flexible working arrangements working both onsite (2-3 times per week) and virtually.

Annual base salary for this position ranges from $41,495.20 to $54,462.45. AstraZeneca is committed to providing fair and equitable compensation opportunities to all colleagues. Our compensation policies and practices have been designed to allow colleagues to progress through the salary range over time as they progress in their role. The range provided in this posting represents an offer pay range used in a majority of situations. The base pay offered will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including the candidate's skills and experience, job-related knowledge, and other specific business and organizational needs. In some cases, offers outside the range may also be considered to address unique circumstances.
In addition, our permanent positions offer an annual Variable Pay Bonus/Short Term Incentive opportunity as well as eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (if applicable to role). Benefits offered for permanent roles include a competitive Flex Benefits & Retirement Savings Program, 4 weeks’ paid vacation, and annual Personal Days. Fixed Term Contract/Temporary positions (excluding students) are offered a Contract Benefits Program.
