Epidemiology & Real World Science Intern - Summer 2026

Role Summary:

We are seeking Masters level students majoring in Epidemiology, Public Health, or a related field for a full-time, 4-Month internship from May to August 2026.

The intern will be an integrated member of the Epidemiology & Real World Science (Epi-RWS) department within the Hematology and Nephrology Therapeutic Area (TA), contributing to the execution of epidemiology strategy that informs clinical development, commercial planning, and lifecycle management. Candidates should have a foundation in epidemiologic study design, familiarity with data analysis, and skill in the critical appraisal of epidemiologic literature.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

  • Support the Hematology/Nephrology TA and lead select short-term deliverables that advance the Epidemiology strategy
  • Lead or assist with development of descriptive epidemiologic analysis concepts and/or plans
  • Conduct critical review of epidemiologic literature for selected topic(s) and prepare evidence summaries
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings with Clinical Development, Medical Affairs, Safety, Regulatory, and Commercial partners, alongside the lead Epidemiologist, as appropriate
  • Maintain regular check-ins with intern manager and actively participate in regular meetings with Epi-RWS team members
  • Present best practices, lessons learned, and project updates to team members

Qualifications:

  • Masters level students majoring in Epidemiology, Public Health, or a closely related field; expected graduation after August 2026.
  • Graduate level Coursework in Epidemiology (Epidemiologic Methods, Observational Research Design, Statistics, Data analysis, etc.).
  • Experience conducting literature searches in databases such as PubMed or EMBASE and critically reviewing epidemiologic literature.
  • Familiarity with primary or secondary epidemiologic studies and protocol concepts.
  • Exposure to healthcare databases and large observational datasets (e.g., claims, EHRs) is an asset; data analytic/programming skills are an asset.
  • Enthusiasm for collaboration, cross-functional projects, public speaking, and presentation skills.
  • Minimum grade point average of 3.0.
  • Available to work full-time for duration of the internship.

What to Expect:

This role is a 4-month paid contract position, which starts in May 2026. Our position will be based in our Mississauga head office and allow for flexible working arrangements working both onsite (2-3 times per week) and virtually.

Annual base salary for this position ranges from $41,495.20 to $54,462.45. AstraZeneca is committed to providing fair and equitable compensation opportunities to all colleagues. Our compensation policies and practices have been designed to allow colleagues to progress through the salary range over time as they progress in their role. The range provided in this posting represents an offer pay range used in a majority of situations. The base pay offered will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including the candidate's skills and experience, job-related knowledge, and other specific business and organizational needs.  In some cases, offers outside the range may also be considered to address unique circumstances.

In addition, our permanent positions offer an annual Variable Pay Bonus/Short Term Incentive opportunity as well as eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (if applicable to role).  Benefits offered for permanent roles include a competitive Flex Benefits & Retirement Savings Program, 4 weeks’ paid vacation, and annual Personal Days. Fixed Term Contract/Temporary positions (excluding students) are offered a Contract Benefits Program.
