ABOUT ASTRAZENECA

As a company Astra Zeneca is committed to bold innovation, unmatched collaboration, and putting patients at the heart of every decision. Through our newly established Global Cell Therapy team we’re redefining how advanced therapies reach those who need them most.

This brand-new role for Australia requires an accomplished leader with a background in clinical operations or cell therapy, and someone who is passionate about transforming patient lives through seamless site engagement and operational innovation.

Join a dynamic, globally connected Cell Therapy team and drive meaningful change in one of healthcare’s most exciting domains.

What You'll Do:

Reporting into the Executive Director, Cell Therapy Global Patient Operations and working with peers in the US, Europe and Japan, the Regional Operations Director is instrumental in building and leading AstraZeneca’s regional cell therapy operations in Australia, interfacing directly with clinical trial sites, their multidisciplinary teams, and global delivery colleagues. Specifically, the role is incremental in the enablement of rapid patient access to cutting-edge therapies while simplifying complex workflows and empowering site success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with principal investigators, clinical managers, nursing teams, cell therapy lab professionals, apheresis staff, and pharmacists to ensure readiness and excellence in site delivery
  • Evaluate and activate treatment facilities, focusing on operational excellence, chain of custody, and equipment requirements
  • Build and lead a team of Territory Operations Managers, shaping a cohesive, patient-centric operations team
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with global Clinical Operations, SMM, and external partners, contributing to international best practices
  • Balance strategic oversight with hands-on problem solving, championing a site-first and patient-first approach

The ideal candidate:

You bring deep, hands-on cell therapy experience within clinical sites (e.g. nurse practitioner, MD, or advanced practice healthcare leader) or you have excelled in pharma roles blending clinical knowledge with operational agility. You thrive in highly collaborative environments, are comfortable presenting to and influencing diverse audiences, and demonstrate humility, resilience, and a mission-driven attitude. This role requires some local travel in the early stages of the role.

Qualifications:

  • BA or BS degree in Nursing, Business, IT and Life Sciences or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years of experience working within a Cell Therapy Program as Operational Champion/Other, healthcare/pharmaceutical environment, directly working with patients and/or healthcare providers.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in a Cell Therapy leadership role.
  • Develop and execute operational strategies in cell therapy.
  • Change management and ability to resolve complex problems promptly.
  • Flexibility in your schedule to provide support outside of regular business hours for emergent patient cases
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 50%
  • Sydney or Melbourne location is preferred but other locations considered.
