Pharmaceutical Technology & Development:
Pharmaceutical Technology and Development (PT&D) are the bridge, which turns brilliant science into actual medicines that help millions of people. We work across the entire value chain, designing and delivering active ingredients, formulations and devices required to support new medicines – from supplies for use in early toxicology studies and clinical trials to developing the technology to ensure drugs can be scaled up for commercial manufacture.

The role
You will be part of a team of scientists providing advanced analytical support to AstraZeneca, Macclesfield, with a focus on the application of mass spectrometry to achieve characterisation and quantification to develop pharmaceutical products. This role is ideal for experienced mass spectrometry professionals looking to advance their careers in pharmaceutical development.
We would like you to provide a scientific contribution which impacts a wide and varied portfolio of active AstraZeneca projects, including both small and medium sized molecules with future opportunities to grow in the large molecule space.
Accountabilities
In this role, you'll play a pivotal part in delivering mass spectrometry support for drug development and market products. You'll contribute to method development using separation, mass spectrometry, and sample preparation approaches to enhance project understanding. Maintaining instrumentation and supporting leading science capability will be key, as will communicating data effectively to diverse audiences. Your work will adhere to Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) guidelines and compliance standards like Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
Essential Skills/Experience
- A relevant scientific degree with significant mass spectrometry experience.
- Ability to apply appropriate mass spectrometry techniques to elucidate the structures of small molecules and develop basic to intermediate quantitative mass spectrometry methodologies.
- Practical experience in the operation of a range of mass spectrometry systems.
- Good communication and influencing skills across disciplines and cultures both internally and externally.
Desirable Skills/Experience
- Knowledge of automated sample preparation techniques or approaches.
- An appreciation of the overall drug development process from discovery through to launch.
- Proactive in supporting development of colleagues.
- An understanding of quality and regulatory requirements (GMP and ICH).
