Introduction to role:


Join us in a key leadership role within our Enterprise Capabilities & Solutions (ECS) group at AstraZeneca IT. As the Director of Software Engineering Excellence, you will be responsible for establishing and maintaining strong governance over secure software development standards, practices, and methods across the enterprise. This role offers an opportunity to directly manage the central software engineering team and influence leaders and senior partners across business, product, and technology teams. 

Accountabilities:


You will design and implement strategies for our central and federated software engineering teams, lead the development of technical methods, and partner with the Enterprise Architecture function to create durable, reusable software frameworks. You will also be responsible for analyzing various quality and trust signals across distributed scrum teams to identify improvement opportunities, leading Communities of Practice, and serving as AstraZeneca IT’s go-to Subject Matter Expert within the domain of expertise.

Essential Skills/Experience:


• Broad Software Engineering experience across a range of fields, including cloud platforms, distributed computing, networking, OS, and web services.
• Expertise in establishing Software standards and policies across global organizations with federated teams including secure software standards.
• Advanced knowledge of software application development and technical processes with considerable in-depth knowledge in one or more technical fields (e.g., cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, mobile, etc.)
• Advanced understanding of agile methodologies and enabling CI/CD tools
• Excellent presentation and training skills.
• Strong interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
• Experience leading globally distributed team of Software Engineers within own organization.
• Experience in leading through influence, the larger federated teams of software engineers.


• Experience in driving initiatives to incorporate Sustainability and Ethical considerations in Software Development at Enterprise Scale
• Experience in Crisis Management and Risk Mitigation strategies across software estate
