About the Team

The technology related aspects of the Axial Programme are managed through the Axial Programme Technology Team covering several areas, one of which is the Axial Solutions Design & Delivery Team (SD&D).  The Non-SAP Data Applications Remediation Lead role reports directly to the Executive Director of Axial Technology: Solutions Design & Delivery.  The role is key within the technology team and sits on the leadership team of the Axial SD&D Team.  The role also forms a key part of the wider Technology Non-SAP Remediation team. 

The role is accountable for leading the identification, remediation, testing and deployment activities for the Non-SAPdata applications and platforms deemed in scope, as well as the planning and delivery of Data Migration activitiesrequired for Non-SAP Applications.  This role ensures that all Axial template designs are thoroughly impact-assessed, remediated and implemented across all non-SAP data applications and platforms across AZ IT and associated business units.   

Introduction to the role

The Technology Data Applications Remediation Lead works with a range of other groups within Axial Technology, Design and Data Teams, across AZ and with other partners, including Accenture, SAP and Global IT counterparts (all IT C4Es and COEs). 

Whilst the role reports to the Executive Director for Solution Design and Delivery, the incumbent will work closely with the Non-SAP Remediation and Global IT teams and will ensure the Axial deployment does not disrupt existing operations.  The Non-SAP team cover transactional systems and solutions and the Non-SAP Data Applications Remediation Lead covers data platforms, applications and services consuming/providing data to legacyNon-SAPreporting solutions and other users. They will identify, assess, align designs, agree on solutions, and implement remedial measures, along with migration of data for Non-SAP applications within the agreed Axial timescales covering all aspects of data outside of core SAP S/4HANA. 

This role will build and lead an effective approach to the identification and remediation of all data applications and platforms impacted by the Axial programme.  The role supports the development of aligned roadmaps for all future deployment activities that impact on the existing data applications and platforms across Global IT.  The Non-SAP Data Applications Remediation Lead is responsible to ensure that all impacted data applications have the appropriate remediation activities implemented ahead of testing and deployment in alignment with integrated programme plans. 

The role will ensure our approach to data application remediation remains consistent and aligned across Axial deployments covering any in scope data platforms, services and solutions.  The role will also ensure we deliver on our Axial ambitions in a collaborative way and work to ensure continuous improvements in the quality and pace of data application remediation activities. 

What you'll do

The Non-SAP Data Applications Remediation Lead will work in close collaboration with the Global IT Business Technology Groups, and other CoEs and third parties as needed, to ensure effective identification and impact assessments are handled seamlessly and the stakeholder relationships across Axial and Global IT are working effectively.  

Throughout this collaboration, an aligned strategy, approach and collaborative relationship must be created and maintained throughout the multiple Axial deployments. 

In this role, you will be responsible for a range of activities in operational partnership with the Non-SAP Application Remediation team: 

  • For Axial Technology overall: lead the end-to-end remediation process and approach for non-SAP data applications impacted by the Axial project. 

  • Collaborate with business technology groups and CoEs to understand data application impacts of the Axial future state designs and ensure alignment with any BAU roadmap and landscape plans, managing delivery of interim solutions as required. 

  • Develop and implement the data migration strategy for non-SAP systems, ensuring that all remediation activities—including the detailed tracking of data flow from source systems through the data hub to downstream consumers—are clearly defined, monitored, and effectively managed throughout the migration process.

  • Collaborate with the Axial Interim states Data Lead and the Axial data workstream to co-ordinate activities, to help define solutions and ensure clear alignment on delivery scope & expectations. 

  • Ensure effective impacts assessments are conducted to identify impacts, risks, and timescales in creating remediation plans for existing data applications working in partnership with BTGs and other data platform/service owners. 

  • Coordinate with IT teams to ensure technical feasibility and support throughout the remediation process, including budget and resource needs for both AZ and third-party activities. 

  • Monitor and report on the progress of remediation activities, providing updates to senior management as needed and in line with Axial methodology. 

  • Engage with Test and Change teams to ensure effective e2e testing of Data Hubs, aligned to defined Test Approach and Deployment scope.

  • Ensure support of Testing through technical defect resolution of Data Hubs and Non-SAP Data Migration methods

  • Ensure effective Cutover and Hypercare of Data Applications including execution of Non-SAP Data Migration activities

  • Work with Non-SAP Remediation team to deliverHigh-level impact assessments identifyingexisting (cross application) use of data objectsacross the Non-SAP estate, support Detailed Impact Assessment process at an Application and Data Object level where needed

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Programme delivery experience on large scale (global and/or complex) programmes. 

  • Awareness of ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and associated tooling, combined with deep understanding of middleware components and complex integration patterns that connect data hubs with consuming systems.

  • Ability to orchestrate data movement across complex, hybrid landscapes and direct teams in defining appropriate solutions

  • Deep understanding of data types, principles and processes such as Master Data, Reference Data, Transactional Data, FAIR, Data Offices, Privacy, Data Cleanse, Mapping Rules, Conversion, Analytics and Archiving. 

  • Proven leadership of working within large complex teams with a globally complex remit. 

  • Ability to communicate (written and oral) clearly and succinctly with senior audiences (VP+). 

  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills. 

  • Clear understanding of the AZ data technology landscape and major vendors and technologies. 

  • A passion to continuously evolve and drive automation and efficiencies. 

  • Good knowledge and demonstrable strong experience of SDLC methodologies. 

  • Proactive approach to problem solving withstrong Lateral and Critical thinking skills.

  • Self-learner and serious about being up to date with data, tech and pharma industry advancements. Ability to grasp and understand new technology and concepts. 

  • Experience of managing and working in/with globally distributed and diverse teams. 

  • Experience of, and comfortable with, working in a global matrix environment  

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Deep data application and data platform experience. 

  • Knowledge of core data fundamentals of SAP S/4HANA data structures and solutions.

  • Experience of AstraZeneca’s existing Data Applications, Platforms and Services including several of, but not limited to, Snowflake, Operations and Finance Data Hubs, SOAR/GSR. 

  • Experience working with/across multiple Business Areas. 

  • Experience of working with GxP / SOx applications. 

  • Experience of implementing SAP Activate methodology and associated best practices. 

  • Experience of using Jira and the Jira X-Ray modules. 

  • Experience of the SAP Solution Manager tool.
