Location Gothenburg, Västra Götaland County, Sweden Job ID R-215855 Date posted 26/12/2024

Are you a lab-based bioanalytical scientist with a passion for science and a desire to apply your knowledge in a company that turns ideas into life-changing medicines? Then this role at AstraZeneca might be right for you!

We are now recruiting a Senior Scientist in Bioanalysis to join the Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) department within the Early Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism therapeutic area (CVRM). The role is located at AstraZeneca’s vibrant R&D center in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The DMPK Bioanalysis team delivers fundamental understanding of drug disposition and conducts bioanalysis of drug candidates in biological samples generated in pre-clinical and clinical studies. The data generated provides insight into quantitative pharmacology as well as right tissue and right exposure aspects, including the fate of drug substances and metabolites. This role will continue to build our capability in bioanalysis and related in-vitro activities with a focus on oligonucleotides, peptides, PROTACs, and small molecules, among others.

Accountabilities

In this lab-based position, you will develop quantitative bioanalytical methods for new drug candidates and deliver pharmacokinetic data across various project stages, from target identification to life-cycle management. Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and qualify assays for the quantification of novel small molecule, peptide, and oligonucleotide drugs, fulfilling project requirements

  • Design and conduct bioanalytical experiments to support drug discovery projects, quantify drugs and their metabolites from in-vitro and in-vivo PK/PD (Pharmacokinetics/Pharmacodynamics) studies

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of innovative bioanalytical technologies and automation to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the drug discovery process

  • Analyse bioanalytical data using appropriate software tools and interpret results to provide actionable insights to project teams

  • Maintain detailed records of experiments and results, and prepare technical reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders

  • Manage interactions with project teams, communicate data and guidance to project representatives

  • Write manuscripts and publish research together with external/internal collaborators.

Essential Skills/Experience

  • Good knowledge, obtained from hands-on experience, of designing, analysing, and interpreting LCMS experiments

  • Ability to develop LC-MS methods for new analytes

  • Experience of quantitative analytical methods

  • Good knowledge, obtained by hands-on experience, with extraction of target analytes from biological samples/matrices

  • Experience of sample preparation methods for biological samples (e.g. protein precipitation, SPE, SLE, LLE, or immunocapture etc.)

  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams as well as independently

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English

Desirable Skills/Experience

  • Previous experience of quantification of different modalities (small molecules, peptides, proteins, antisense oligonucleotides, small interfering RNA)

  • Experience of lab automation

  • Experience of high-resolution mass spectrometry

  • Experience with other analytical technologies such as PCR or immunoassays

  • Basic understanding of DMPK

  • Understanding of the overall drug discovery and development process
