US Wellbeing Benefits Manager - Health & Welfare Plans

Location: Gaithersburg, MD

Introduction to role:

We are seeking a U.S. Wellbeing Benefits Manager – Health & Welfare Plans based in Gaithersburg, Maryland. This role focuses primarily on U.S.-based health & welfare plans, working with colleagues and outside service providers to ensure our benefits strategy and execution reflect the needs of AstraZeneca and our employees.

Accountabilities:

As the US Wellbeing Benefits Manager – Health & Welfare Plans, you will develop and manage key benefit plans including medical, dental, vision life, disability and various other benefit plans and policies. You will serve as the subject matter expert on the plans’ provisions and operations, ensuring efficient administration in accordance with legal requirements. You will manage plan documents and provider contracts, monitor plan cost, design and participation, oversee compliance matters, and drive communication/education strategy of the health & welfare plans. You will also coach teammates on health & welfare plan administration and lead projects in the U.S. health & welfare space.

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • 8-10 years of recent health & welfare benefit management experience
  • Must have strong experience working with third-party outsourced health & welfare benefit administrators
  • Must have experience managing employee and retiree medical plans
  • In-depth knowledge of policies, processes and procedures pertaining to healthcare, life insurance and disability programs, COBRA, ACA requirements, other Federal and State requirements, and other significant health & welfare benefit arrangements
  • Experience working in a public multi-national, multi-division corporation
  • Experience managing benefit-related merger and acquisition activities
  • Necessary people skills to engage and influence major stakeholders and internal clients
  • Wide experience of managing cross-functional projects
  • Ability to think and plan and manage activity in a structured manner, and communicate effectively
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • High level proficiency in Excel, Power Point, and Word

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Master’s degree in a related field
  • Post graduate qualifications in subject area
  • Workday experience
  • Additional experience in other benefit management areas such as defined contribution plans
  • CEBS

The annual base pay for this position ranges from $111,228 to $166,842. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.  In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
