Accountabilities
AstraZeneca is seeking a motivated scientist to join the Translational Proteomics team within our Cancer Biomarker Development (CBD) group located in Gaithersburg, MD. The scientist will develop and apply mass spectrometry-based proteomics workflows for biomarker quantification to accelerate the development of AZ’s oncology medicines. This position requires expertise in quantitative mass spectrometry for clinical samples and strong communication skills to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
Develop and validate innovative DIA-based mass spectrometry proteomics for biomarker studies.
Process clinical samples (e.g., FFPE tissue, frozen tissue, plasma) for translational and clinical studies.
Operate high-resolution instruments (TimsTOF Ultra2, Exploris 480) and ensure high-quality data.
Analyze R&D and clinical data, summarize results, and present key results internally and externally.
Collaborate with translational biologists and bioinformatics teams to develop protein biomarkers.
Essential Skills/Experience
Ph.D. in bioanalytical chemistry or related field with 0-4 years post-doctoral experience in quantitative mass spectrometry-based proteomics.
Extensive hands-on experience with high-resolution mass spectrometry instrumentation for method development, data acquisition, troubleshooting, and quality control.
Experience with biological sample preparation (tissue, plasma) for quantitative LC-MS applications.
Expertise in untargeted proteomics data analysis (Skyline, Spectronaut, MaxQuant, DIA-NN) and downstream interpretation (differential expression, pathway analysis).
Proficient programming skills (R, Python) and statistics for advanced data analysis and visualization.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with strong communication skills.
Desirable Skills/Experience
Experience with sample preparation using liquid handling robotics.
Experience working in regulated environments (GCP/GLP).

The annual base pay (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $112,164 to $168,246. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
