Senior Scientist, Manufacturing Sciences – Scale Up Lab

Collaborate with process development scientists, engineers, and technical transfer groups to demonstrate process scale-up and technology capabilities. This role involves working in both upstream and downstream operations, offering a dynamic environment for those eager to lead and innovate.

Accountabilities

  • Plan, execute, and troubleshoot continuous downstream operations.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on PAK BioSolutions, PAK Pilot.
  • Analyze and interpret process results.
  • Prepare experimental proposals, technical reports, work guides, and batch records.
  • Train and guide new employees on downstream scale up lab operations.
  • Represent Manufacturing Sciences and scale up lab on internal and external teams.
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies and tools to improve process outcomes.
  • Plan, execute, and troubleshoot 50L to 200L bioreactors for fed-batch and perfusion cell culture processes.
  • Conduct harvest operations including continuous flow centrifuges, depth filtration, and TFF.
  • Produce data and materials for downstream development, toxicology, formulation, and stability studies.

Essential Skills/Experience

  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Bioprocess Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related life sciences field.
  • Relevant industry related experience: B.S. with 8+ years of related experience or M.S. with 6+ years of related experience
  • Strong background in downstream unit operations including affinity, ion exchange, and viral inactivation.
  • Experience operating cell culture equipment: bioreactors, CIP skids, and continuous centrifuges.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Strong problem solving, experimental design, organizational, presentation, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment or independently
  • Capability to lead matrix teams.
  • Willingness to work periodically on weekends.

Desirable Skills/Experience

  • Understanding of engineering principles and application to bioprocessing.
  • Experience culturing CHO and HEK cell lines, and purification techniques of monoclonal antibodies.
  • Experience working with pilot scale bioprocessing equipment.
  • Programming experience (VB.net, python, etc.).
  • Experience in writing recipes for instrument automation.
  • Fundamental understanding of key quality attributes necessary for cell culture, fermentation, and purification.

The annual base pay for this position ranges from $112,164.00 - 168,246.00. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.  In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
