Senior Scientist, Flow Cytometry

Introduction to role

As a Senior Scientist in Flow Cytometry at AstraZeneca, you'll be at the forefront of scientific innovation, supporting operations in Gaithersburg, MD. With a focus on core lab experience and cell sorting, you'll collaborate across multiple therapeutic areas, gaining invaluable experience in a fast-paced environment under the guidance of senior staff.

Accountabilities

In this role, you will serve as a primary resource to:

  • Support the daily operation and maintenance of flow cytometers with a specific focus on advanced data analysis and automation, and ensure accurate acquisition and management of data under local and global flow cytometry leadership

  • Collaborate on innovative immunology/flow cytometry projects and/or automation solutions to support Oncology and BioPharma within AstraZeneca

  • Be an expert in multicolor flow cytometry, review and analyze data, interpret experimental results, and summarize data for presentations and reports with accountability for accuracy

  • Contribute to the development of new technological platforms in particular Imaging Flow Cytometry

  • Demonstrate excellent collaborative and pro-active problem-solving skills to include identifying a problem and taking appropriate actions and knowing when to seek guidance

Essential Skills/Experience

  • PhD degree (or equivalent experience) in Immunology, Bioinformatics, Engineering or a related quantitative discipline and 3+ years of relevant experience, or a Masters with 5+ years, or a Bachelor’s with 8 years of directly relevant outstanding performance

  • Track record of scientific excellence in advanced flow cytometry and/or automation

  • High-content spectral flow cytometry data experience and/or imaging

  • Experience with a variety of flow cytometry data analysis and bioinformatic tools, including FlowJo, FCS Express, OMIQ, Cytobank, and/or Python or R

  • Great teamwork and communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Strong multi-tasking, time management and organizational skills

Desirable Skills/Experience

  • Programming skills such as Python and R are highly desirable

  • Experience in automation is highly desirable

  • Microscopy experience is desirable

  • Immunology experience is desirable

  • Experience in understanding and analyzing other omics data (e.g. transcriptomics, mass spec) is a plus
