Summary of the Group
The Flow Cytometry group is part of Dynamic Omics/ Centre for Genomics Research (CGR) and Discovery Sciences within AstraZeneca, and work across all therapeutic areas: Oncology, Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism (CVRM), Respiratory and Immunology (R&I), Vaccines and Immunotherapies (V&I), and Rare Diseases. The team supports over 600 scientists globally and delivers key data to projects across all phases of the drug discovery and development, and we work with all modalities from small molecules to biologics. The Flow Cytometry Center of Excellence is among the leading flow cytometry organizations worldwide (as recently recognized by the International Society for Advancement of Cytometry), equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation and cutting-edge technology and expertise.
Introduction to role
In this role, you will support the operations of the team in Gaithersburg, MD, with a particular focus on flow cytometry core lab experience and cell sorting. You will also participate in collaborations with multiple therapeutic areas. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work and grow in a fast-paced environment under the supervision of senior staff members.
Accountabilities
In this role, you will serve as a primary resource to:
Support the daily operation and maintenance of flow cytometers with a specific focus on cell sorting, and ensure accurate acquisition and management of data under local and global flow cytometry leadership
Collaborate on innovative immunology/flow cytometry projects and/or automation solutions to support Oncology and BioPharma within AstraZeneca
Be an expert in multicolor flow cytometry, review and analyze data, interpret experimental results, and summarize data for presentations and reports with accountability for accuracy
Contribute to the development of new technological platforms such as Imaging Flow Cytometry
Demonstrate excellent collaborative and pro-active problem-solving skills to include identifying a problem and taking appropriate actions and knowing when to seek guidance
Essential Skills/Experience
PhD degree (or equivalent experience) in Immunology, Bioinformatics, Engineering or a related quantitative discipline and 3+ years of relevant experience, or a Masters with 5+ years, or a Bachelor’s with 8 years of directly relevant outstanding performance
Cell sorting and flow cytometry core experience
Track record of scientific excellence in immunology, flow cytometry and/or automation
High-content and/or spectral flow cytometry experience
Experience with a variety of flow cytometry data analysis and bioinformatic tools, including FlowJo, FCS Express, OMIQ, or Cytobank
Great teamwork and communication skills, both verbal and written
Strong multi-tasking, time management and organizational skills
Desirable Skills/Experience
Programming skills such as Python and R are desirable
Experience in automation is desirable
Experience in understanding and analyzing other omics data (e.g. transcriptomics, mass spec) is a plus
Microscopy experience is desirable

The annual base pay (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $108,473 to $162,710. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
