The Senior Manager of Proposal Development & Alliance Management is a key member of the Vaccines and Immune Therapies (V&I) team at AstraZeneca. This role is responsible for leading the development of R&D proposals in response to solicitations from government and non-governmental organizations, while also supporting priority alliances with AstraZeneca’s partners and collaborators. The role reports to the Senior Director of Business Development, Search & Evaluation, and Partnering.

The successful candidate will bring a strong background in scientific R&D and/or clinical research related to vaccines, antibodies, and infectious diseases, along with an entrepreneurial mindset and exceptional written and verbal communication skills. The ability to engage and collaborate across functions, lead cross-functional teams, and drive results in a dynamic environment is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of technical and cost proposals (white papers, enhanced white papers, full proposals) in response to government and NGO solicitations aligned with the V&I strategy.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for institutions, governments, NGOs, and other partners, representing AstraZeneca in a professional and timely manner.
  • Manage day-to-day alliance operations including governance committees, communications, issue resolution, activity coordination, and agreement negotiations.
  • Track and communicate progress on contractual milestones, obligations, and financials, working closely with project team leaders.
  • Approve and route payment requests and invoices through Finance.
  • Collaborate with Legal and other internal stakeholders to support contract renewals and amendments.
  • Assess existing collaboration agreements and develop recommendations to enhance strategic value.
  • Resolve business and contractual issues in collaboration with project teams and partners, ensuring alignment with program goals.
  • Monitor partnership health and performance and provide strategic updates and recommendations to senior leadership.

Education

• M.Sc. or Ph.D. in a relevant scientific discipline with a minimum of 4 years of experience.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Proven experience in developing technical and cost proposals for government and NGO solicitations.
  • Experience with public-private partnerships, including collaborations with governments, NGOs, and academic institutions.
  • Strong background in alliance management, especially within research or clinical environments.
  • Scientific expertise in vaccines, antibodies, infectious diseases, and relevant technology platforms.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the ability to manage internal and external stakeholders effectively.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and strategic thinking.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, matrixed organizational environment.

The annual base pay for this position ranges from $153,891.20 to $230,836.80. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.  In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
