ABOUT OUR R&D IT CAPABILITY TEAM:

In Early Science, we have highly skilled scientists in our labs who experiment and support complex drug projects.  The environment is driven by scientific and technical innovation with a high level of diversity in workflows, data, and vendors. 

The R&D IT Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC) capability drives digitization in two business areas, cutting across both complex synthetic modalities & biologics, that combined deliver crucial activities when developing new pharmaceutical products.CMC Capability involves partnering with the Research and Operations functions to ensure potential new products have the required pharmaceutical properties that can be delivered to the patients and secondly defining the manufacturing practices and product specifications that must be followed and met to ensure product safety and consistency between batches.

The Capabilityteam enable the business to develop a technology and data roadmap to meet their scientific goals. They work with skilled scientists to understand business requirements, develop business cases, determine value to be realised, and identify the optimal delivery method through our R&D IT Platforms and other technical IT teams. During the delivery process the Capability team willcontinue to liaisewith the technical deliveryto move these business ideas through our development process and quickly to production to ensure the benefits can be realised. In line with AstraZeneca’s FAIR data strategy, our cross functional IT teamsdrive building and delivering data products using a modern data stack with a goal to be as automated and simple as possible.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

The BusinessAnalyst (BA)has passion for helping improve the user experience in the early sciences. Working with key Business leads and the R&D IT Platforms to analyse the needs and input into the organisation, design and data flow of the systems, models, and processes - all with a drive for user simplicity and great experience. This role requires someone that can partner with and lead our business teams to truly understand the ‘why’ of the solution; how it aligns with strategic initiatives, align with the vision and capabilities of the various R&D IT platform teams whilst being able to delve into the detail of ‘how’ the solution will work from a functional user perspective.TheCapability BA willunderstand the science domain and its future direction; they will have knowledgemany if not all theproducts supported by the various R&D IT Platforms.

Typical activities will involve running business workflow mapping session with and conducting interviews, with one of more scientific subject matter experts. Creating new business cases by working with the Business Partners to translate business requirements into a development plan, bringing in needs for all technical teams in IT and our external vendors to plan and cost new technology deployments.Presenting back to business stakeholders, including Steering Teams, departmental meetings, and smaller groups of technical specialists. Attending PI Planning sessions; working with teams to identify functional and technical requirements, translating the requirements into design specifications reflecting Functional Design, User Interface Design and Business Process Design, correlating complex data, and using this to influence the product roadmap by giving data driven recommendations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

We consider individuals in this role to be part of the Capability leadership and essential for both project planning and delivery; this means you need to be capable of working in multiple spaces and are likely to become the most experienced with how our business operates. You will keep the lines of communication open between our CMC Capability team and the R&D IT Platform teams, understanding and triaging the incoming demands and making sure they align with the platform vision and scope, while ready to push back when capacity issues and scope creep are present. Essential Requirements:

  • Must have:Strong communication skills to engage and influence multiple teams.

  • Must have: Strong ability to translate scientific needs to IT requirements to developers who’s understanding of the science is limited.

  • Must have: a minimumof a bachelor's degree  in IT, Science, or equivalent subject

  • Must have: a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in IT and/or the Sciences.

Preferred Experience:

  • Strongly Desired:Understanding of the R&D space in the life sciences domain

  • Strongly Desired: Knowledge ofAI and modern technology capabilities.

  • Experience with data pipelines and modern analytics tools and capabilities.

  • Experience with change management and modern process improvement.

  • Be aware of modern, agile software development practices and help develop and evangelize a great product and user focused culture.

  • Expertise with process tools like JIRA, Confluence and an understanding of GIT and CI/CD tools

  • Exposure/knowledge of wire-framing and prototyping tools (e.g. Axure, Balsamiq)

  • Nice to have: SCRUM master or Project Manager certification.
