Accountabilities
As the Global Portfolio Director, you will utilize your expertise in project management, people management, and stakeholder engagement to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams within OBU Medical’s Evidence Generation to Publications (EvGen2Pubs) organization. Your leadership skills in change management, budget oversight, and problem-solving will be essential for effective portfolio management within the EvGen2Pubs organization. Reporting directly to the Head of Medical Innovation, Strategy & Operations (MIST), you will work closely with the VP of EvGen2Pubs, balancing the goals of both organizations under Medical Affairs.
Strategic Partnership with the EvGen2Pubs VP ( ~ 30%)
You will:
- Collaborate with the VP, EvGen2Pubs, to develop and achieve scorecard goals, value metrics, budget and carbon targets, and leadership presentations for the organization. You will monitor progress and proactively mitigate risks to ensure successful delivery.
- Facilitate leadership team (LT) meetings by providing strategic input and managing all meeting agendas and follow-up action items.
- Coordinate 1–2 key workstreams to drive initiatives focused on enhancing the effectiveness of GMA and the EvGen2Pubs organization.
- Oversee the strategic planning and execution of deliverables assigned to the EvGen2Pubs leadership team on an ongoing basis.
- Plan, monitor, and communicate the status of the EvGen2Pubs functional budget, including phasing, prioritization, and integration with long-range plans.
Team Management (~70%)
You will:
- Build and lead a high-performing team responsible for strategic planning and execution of deliverables in collaboration with Medical Leadership-1 across Evidence Delivery, Publications, Oncology Outcomes Research, and the Center of Data Excellence.
- Partner with the MIST leadership team to promote a culture that welcomes challenge, new ideas, and proactive ways of working while upholding AstraZeneca’s core values and providing career development opportunities for MIST members.
- Serve as a mentor and coach to EvGen2Pubs MIST team members on topics such as stakeholder management, prioritization, problem-solving etc.
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
You bring demonstrated expertise in:
- Change management, including process development, implementation, people development, organizational effectiveness, and communication.
- Building strong interpersonal relationships and communicating effectively across functions, geographies, and cultures.
- Championing entrepreneurial spirit, agile cross-functional collaboration, courageous leadership, creativity, and innovation.
- Stakeholder management within Medical Affairs (Global & markets) and across OBU enterprise.
Essential Skills/Experience
- Masters level degree in a science or business-related field.
- Minimum of 7 years' experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
- At least 5 years of management experience leading teams in a matrix environment across multiple geographies and time zones.
- Proven self-starter with strong leadership credentials and the ability to clarify strategic direction, drive commitment, balance short- and long-term priorities, resolve differences constructively, and reinforce clear expectations and scope.
- Advanced knowledge of pharmaceutical product development and commercialization.
- Experience working effectively in multicultural, matrixed organizations, with a proven ability to manage stakeholders in different time zones.
- Demonstrated track record of preparing and delivering presentations to executive leadership.
- Experience operating within a quality- and compliance-driven environment, adhering to policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Desirable Skills/Experience
- Formal project management certification (e.g., Six Sigma, PMP, PRINCE2).
- In-depth understanding of the medical, scientific, or commercial landscape in Oncology.
- Experience in consulting roles.
The annual base pay for this position ranges from $ 144,026.40 - 216,039.60 USD. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program. Benefits offered include a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
