Introduction to role

The Global MSL Excellence Director for Oncology is accountable for ensuring the strategic alignment of MSL activities and the development, delivery, and reporting of prioritised MSL Excellence initiatives to strengthen MSL capabilities across AZ regions and affiliate organisation for the Oncology Business Unit. Working in collaboration with the OBU Medical Excellence teams, Global Medical Affairs Leaders, and Field Medical Leaders, you will provide strategic direction, implement programs to build Oncology-specific MSL and MSL Leader capabilities, and shape the future field medical role in Oncology.

Accountabilities

  • Act as a MSL subject matter expert to AZ global initiatives where Oncology MSLs are implicated. Provide insight, guidance, influence and expertise that ensures global vision for field medical roles are well understood
  • Devise and implement Global MSL Excellence deliverables (e.g. Field Medical Strategic Planning, insight evaluation, clinical trial delivery and reporting, etc.) to ensure optimisation of Global/local field medical strategies.
  • Provide robust strategic guidance and insights to stakeholders regarding the diverse needs of Field Medical worldwide, to support alignment of initiatives with company priorities
  • Execute on rigorous insight generation process, defining Global priorities, capture and report across Local markets to strengthen business impact and value – including insights process and platform optimisation
  • Scope and inform functionality enhancements of Field Medical systems/digital tools to support in-field effectiveness and external engagement, and embed consistent utilization across Local markets
  • Use business knowledge and customer-focused ethos to champion innovative and scalable Global MSL Excellence initiatives across the function and that result in valued outcomes and maximum in-country impact
  • Conduct ad-hoc analyses on field medical deliverables and initiatives to proactively escalate issues, propose solutions and modify strategies
  • Lead evolution and implementation of Field Medical professional development & continual learning programs that ensure excellence in onboarding, and enhance MSL/MSL manager performance and impact

Essential Skills/Experience

  • Advanced degree in scientific discipline or applicable Health Sciences field
  • Experience (~5 years) in an MSL organization, including leadership of Field Medical teams
  • Experience of working in Global and/or Regional Medical Affairs role
  • Experience working in the oncology therapeutic area
  • Deep understanding of medical strategy, clinical development, field medical roles and Medical Affairs and the impact on field medical strategy
  • Proven track record of delivering above country programs that support the operational excellence, leadership and coaching of high performing field medical individuals or teams
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to influence without authority

Desirable Skills/Experience

  • Experience in MSL performance management and outcomes-based reporting
  • Exceptional ability to provide strategic leadership across Global and local cross-functional matrices
  • Clear understanding of the compliance requirements and governing bodies for MSL programs
  • Effective problem solving using creative solutions and project management skills
  • Experience of and ability to provide strategic leadership across cross functional working groups

The annual base pay for this position ranges from $193,281.60 - $289,922.40. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program. Benefits offered include a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
