TITLE: Director, Business Planning and Operations – Oncology R&D

LOCATION: Gaithersburg, MD

HOURS: Full-Time; Mon-Fri (40 hours/week)

DUTIES:  Conduct and coordinate tests to ensure intelligence is consistent with business needs holding responsibility for performance, financials and operational analysis. Lead development of digital platform focusing on predictive and prescriptive parameters for clinical portfolio operations. Build the departmental business plan ensuring the leadership team and department/function are prepared in advance of critical business processes or meetings. Work with the Portfolio & Capacity Management team supporting forecasting. Monitor expenditure against agreed budget targets, identifying variances and implementing corrective action if necessary. Utilize CAPIT, monitor departmental vacancies across skill types, and the phasing of recruitment to support forecasting. Work with senior leaders within the function to ensure the effective development and monitoring of strategy and annual goals, and ensure the function is resourced to deliver on its strategy. Track delivery, produce performance updates, and report on and communicate the scorecard.

REQUIREMENTS:   Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Engineering, Analytics, or a related field, and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the job offered, as a Business Analyst or in a related occupation within the pharmaceutical industry. Five (5) years of experience must include: Working in drug discovery and development to drive business priorities and identify strategic focus areas; developing departmental goals, tracking delivery of goals, and producing performance updates and reports to support development of commercial and clinical drugs; managing complex projects within oncology R&D focused on application of data science and AI to enable faster and improved delivery of drugs to patients; identifying and delivering key functional engagements and events such as town halls and any other communication required by the functional leadership team to share key achievements; facilitating regular resource discussions to develop plans to address priority resource shortfalls by reallocation of current staff, hiring contractor workers, or permanent staff; monitoring expenditure against agreed budget targets, identifying variances and implementing corrective action if necessary, working in partnership with the finance department; and partnering with HR and leadership on talent development, strategic workforce planning, and functional training programs.

The annual base salary (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $211,692.00-$227,214.00.  However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.  In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles) or to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
