Are you ready to make a difference in the lives of patients with rare diseases? Join us as a Medical Science Liaison in Ireland for a 6-month fixed-term contract. In this role, you will provide scientific and medical leadership within the Ireland affiliate, ensuring the achievement of local objectives related to the Complement Franchise. Your work will contribute to the Alexion Global Medical Affairs mission to improve patient outcomes by advancing the evidence-based medical standard of care.

Accountabilities

  • Leadership Position: Provide expert scientific engagement with external experts related to Complement indications and provide insights that shape medical plans and ultimately contribute to favourable patient outcomes
  • Support Function: Ensure a close working relationship with all functions in the country, particularly Rare Diseases Country Lead for Ireland, and including commercial operations, national/strategic account and marketing teams

What you'll do:

  • Identify and map critical HCP collaborators for each Complement indication within Ireland with a focus on physicians, nurse practitioners, and pharmacists
  • Develop collaborative scientific relationships with external experts to nurture medical insights and strategic partnerships and validate treatment pathways across various indications and offer input on strategic plans
  • Share timely clinical data upon request and participate in scientific conversations with key customers
  • Educate on relevant risk management materials and understand how this will be practically implemented by treating physicians. Identify any potential barriers with vaccination pathways.
  • Understand the training requirements for IV infusion and hospital pharmacy teams and work collaboratively to build training solutions. Engage with clinical teams to understand homecare requirements and barriers to set-up
  • Develop and continuously maintain the highest scientific and medical expertise relevant to diseases and products in the disease area, and be acknowledged internally and externally as an expert in these areas
  • Contribute to the development of the Disease Plan and implement the local Medical Affairs tactics and strategy, to support best clinical practice and the overall corporate objectives in the relevant franchise
  • Work in close partnership with national and strategic account managers to implement effective key account management plans for medical affairs
  • Actively engage with UK commercial, Medical Affairs and other functions to ensure the effective local implementation of Alexion strategy and appropriate use of local market intelligence and development opportunities
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge and appropriately implement Alexion policies and procedures, Ireland pharmaceutical regulations, and adhering to IPHA code of practice
  • Attend appropriate national and international meetings and congresses to gather intelligence, increase expertise in the therapy area, and develop relationships with healthcare professionals

Essential Skills/Experience

  • Degree or equivalent experience in life sciences
  • Relevant and significant experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry (or experience with biological product)
  • Good analytical skills as applied to medical, scientific, and technical information
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate medical/scientific literature and develop effective medical/communication strategies accurately and effectively
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong project management, interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
  • Adaptability to multicultural environment
  • Strong teammate but able to work independently
  • Identify priorities and manage deliverables
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and negotiating skills
  • Exhibits composure under pressure
  • Sense of ethics and responsibility

Desirable Skills/Experience

  • Field-based customer-facing experience, knowledge of the Ireland healthcare system
  • Advanced degree in life sciences (i.e. MSc, PhD)
  • 3-5 years experience in Medical Affairs or the Irish healthcare environment
  • Rare diseases and/or Neurology/Nephrology/Haematology knowledge/experience
  • Background/experience in genetic  or Orphan diseases
