Introduction to role
The Medical Scientific Advisor is a field-based medical affairs expert with a strong scientific understanding and knowledge of our therapeutic areas. Typically, the role encompasses national responsibilities, with potential additional Nordic-specific tasks. The MSA is a key driver to the development of the AstraZeneca Medical Therapeutic Area strategy by developing relevant understanding of key collaborator needs & perceptions. The MSA is accountable for creating and implementing medical activity plans relating to AstraZeneca's (AZ's) portfolio and products across the full life cycle.
The key focus of the MSA is in the pre-launch and launch phase by translating scientific expertise and health care understanding into strategic and tactical initiatives. , The MSA will partner with healthcare to (co)-lead transforming care initiatives aligned to AZ core therapy area strategy. The MSA is expected to exhibit collaborative, cross-functional working relationships with internal team members, as well as close external interactions with external experts and health care partners, to prepare for successful launches, facilitate clinical trial deliverables and transform care to make an impact for patient outcomes.
Our office is located in Copenhagen but as the role is field based you can live anywhere in Denmark.
Accountabilities
Medical and Scientific Engagement in pre-launch and launch with external collaborators.
Lead scientific plans to explore and address unmet medical needs in priority disease areas.
Develop, enhance, and maintain external partner engagement by developing and implementing an engagement plan in line with the medical strategy and Medical Activity Plan.
Proactively build sequential scientific engagement with key external experts, medical organizations, national collaborators in therapeutic areas, and other decision-makers.
Enable well-informed guidelines and protocols at the time of approval and advocate progress over time in the pre-launch phase to prepare healthcare for launches.
Activities performed in line with Medical Activity Plan, organizing and leading scientific exchange meetings, acting as scientific speaker at external meetings, and organizing and leading advisory boards.
Engage KEEs, HCPs, and other external collaborators by proactively providing on-label scientific updates and information on AZ disease areas and marketed products as part of non-promotional scientific exchange.
Respond to unsolicited requests for information about AZ products and, presenting information in an objective, scientifically balanced, and substantiated manner.
Support clinical operation with study management and deliverables across the full spectrum of clinical trials, ensuring country allocation, site preference, and delivery.
Provide information to investigator/potential investigators on the existence of Externally Sponsored Research (ESR) and Open Innovation (OI) programs.
Articulate evidence gaps based on insights from the medical evidence team.
Essential Skills/Experience
Master’s Degree in life sciences or a related field, PhD or MD degree is an advantage
Danish as well as English language skills are required.
Strong understanding of the Danish healthcare system.
Driver’s license and ability to travel.
Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality standards in collaboration with external partners.
Ability to understand the Healthcare Systems, priorities, decision makers, and clinical pathways design and delivery, identify common barriers to optimal care, and how to navigate in partnerships.
Strategic mentality with ability to operationalize strategy into impactful activities.
Growth and adaptive approach matching a constantly changing external and internal agenda.
External-facing focus and pro-active approach with respect to engaging different external partners
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions by acting as an informal leader.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely for a variety of collaborators.
Cross-functional and collaborative approach: Experience working in cross-functional teams and taking indirect leadership in those to deliver against a shared goal.
Experience working across the full spectrum of life cycle, including pre-launch or launch experience.
