Job Title: Lead Consultant - AI Platform Engineer

Introduction to role

We are looking for a Senior AI Platform Engineer to join our new AI platform team in Enterprise AI platform team, IGNITE. The ideal candidate will have proven experience working in AWS cloud environments, where they devise and deploy large-scale production infrastructure and platforms. The position will involve applying these skills to some of the most exciting machine-learning problems in drug discovery.

The successful candidate will be part of a new, close-knit team of deeply technical experts and have the chance to create tools that will advance the standard of healthcare, improving the lives of millions of patients across the globe. Our data science environments will support major AI initiatives such as clinical trial data analysis, knowledge graphs, imaging & Omics for our therapy areas. You will also have a responsibility to help provide the frameworks for data scientists to develop scalable machine learning and predictive models with our growing data science community, safely and robustly.

As a strong software leader and an expert in building sophisticated systems, you will be responsible for inventing how we use technology, machine learning, and data to enable AstraZeneca's productivity. You will help envision, build, deploy, and develop our next generation of data engines and tools at scale. You will bridge the gap between science and engineering and function with deep expertise in both worlds!

You will also have the opportunity to learn many cutting-edge technologies related to Machine Learning Platforms. You will push the boundaries to test, develop, and implement new ideas, technologies, and opportunities.

Accountabilities

  • Provide the vital infrastructure and platform to support the deployment and monitoring of ML solutions in production Optimizing solutions for performance and scalability.

  • Collaborate closely with data science teams in developing cutting edge data science, AI/ML environments and workflows on AWS.

  • Liaise with R&D data scientists to understand their challenges and work with them to help productionise ML pipelines, models, and algorithms for innovative science.

  • Take responsibility for all aspects of software engineering, from design to implementation, QA and maintenance.

  • Lead technology processes from concept development to completion of project deliverables.

  • Liaise with other teams to enhance our technological stack, to enable the adoption of the latest advances in Data Processing and AI.

  • Team recruitment, training provision and coaching.

Essential Skills/Experience

  • Significant experience with AWS cloud environments is essential. Knowledge of SageMaker, Athena, S3, EC2, RDS, Glue, Lambda, Step functions, EKS, and ECS is also essential. Certification in appropriate areas will be viewed favourably.

  • Modern DevOps mindset, using best-of-breed DevOps toolchains, such as Docker and Git.

  • Experience with infrastructure as code technology such as Ansible, Terraform and Cloud Formation.

  • Strong software coding skills, with proficiency in Python, however exceptional ability in any language, will be recognized.

  • Experience managing an enterprise platform and service, handling new customer demand and feature requests.

  • Experience with containers and microservice architectures e.g., Kubernetes, Docker and serverless approaches.

  • Experience with Continuous Integration and building continuous delivery pipelines, such as CodePipeline, CodeBuild, and Code Deploy.

  • GxP experience.

  • Excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.

Desirable Skills/Experience

  • Experience building large scale data processing pipelines. e.g., Hadoop/Spark and SQL.

  • Use of Data Science modelling tools e.g., R, Python and Data Science notebooks (e.g., Jupyter).

  • Multi cloud experience (AWS/Azure/GCP).

  • Demonstrable knowledge of building MLOPs environments to a production standard.

  • Experience on mentoring, coaching and supporting less experienced colleagues and clients.

  • Experience with SAFe agile principles and practices.
