Introduction to role
The Program Manager (Oncology Translational Medicine) will provide cross-functional, operational and strategic leadership for the Translational Medicine program team to support delivery of robust, scientifically-driven biomarker data in drug discovery and development projects for targeted agents in our oncology portfolio within AZ, working within a collaborative alliance. You will have the opportunity impact an industry-leading portfolio of targeted therapy programs from inception through to life cycle management for marketed drugs and to effectively manage the operational activities of the team and manage and control project information and communications to all stakeholders and senior management.

Accountabilities

  • Facilitating development of biomarker strategies and ensuring delivery within the TM project team and alliance.
  • Partners with the TM leads to help develop and operationalize the translational strategy, optimize delivery in terms of prioritization, time, cost, value and risk.
  • Focuses the team on project objective delivery, ensuring corporate and delivery metrics are achieved in an optimized and value driven way.
  • Manages external alliances/collaborations, from review to finalization, often culminating in publications.
  • Key point of contact within the alliance for TM, manages joint team communications (agendas, minutes, actions tracking) and actively seeks strategic alignment.
  • Provides project information for all project and department related documentation and analytical assessments.
  • Identifies issues and facilitates problem-solving, contingency planning, and decision-making.
  • Has an active role within the ADC leadership team.
  • Acts as a role model for partnering, collaboration and cross-functional working.
  • Acts as the ‘Hub’ for and manages project information.

Previous experience will include:

  • The Program Manager will have proven project management skills with strong research or industry experience
  • Project management of R&D programmes, with the ability to create, coordinate, and maintain an integrated product plan and to control or respond to changes in strategy and scope.
  • Practical knowledge of the biological sciences with technical, scientific or medical expertise in one or more functional areas involved in pharmaceutical/biologic product development.
  • Understands the overall biologic/pharmaceutical product development process, stages of development, and role of different functional areas. Early and late phase clinical development stages and processes experience with key stage gates, and decision-making criteria.
  • Working knowledge of Translational Medicine functions – Translational Medicine, Pharmacogenomics, and precision medicine
  • Working knowledge of the biological sciences with technical, scientific or medical expertise in one or more functional areas involved in biologic/pharmaceutical product development. (Oncology and Antibody drug conjugates and
  • Basic knowledge of worldwide regulatory requirements, processes and regulatory authority interactions, as well as patent protection and records management.
  • Expertise in use of project management software solutions, including skills in critical path analysis. MS Project and/or Planisware experience is a plus.
  • Experience in financial and resource planning systems and processes with an ability to coordinate project-level budget/resource estimates and manage actuals vs. plan.
  • Some experience in working across company boundaries in collaborative or vendor relationships.

Essential Skills/Experience

  • BA/BSc in a biological science or other scientific degree with strong Pharmaceutical Industry experience (or the equivalent) in Project Management or PhD with experience in drug development.
  • Working knowledge of drug development, oncology disease area biology and translational science, ideally with knowledge in antibody drug conjugates.
  • Strong organizational skills required, including good time management skills. Must be highly organized and able to work independently on multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven communication and influencing skills.
  • Highly developed problem solving and risk management skills.
  • Highly developed collaborative working skills.
  • Ability to act as an external ambassador and to influence external organisations to enhance the image and reputation of AstraZeneca.
