SITE DESCRIPTION

The role is based in our new ground-breaking Discovery Centre (DISC) located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.  This newly purpose-built building brings together the company’s research and development activity in a pioneering strategic R&D centre and global corporate headquarters. The building has been designed with open architecture reflecting AstraZeneca’s approach to research. Open laboratories and glass walls will enable new ways of working across teams, whilst a central courtyard will put science on full display. 

BUSINESS AREA

Join the Biologics Engineering team at AstraZeneca, where we are responsible for the discovery and optimisation of next-generation biological drug candidates across all key therapy areas. We are developing in-house biologics discovery platforms and novel drug modalities to address unmet medical needs. Be empowered to act fast on smart risks and keep ahead in the fast-paced Oncology field.

What you'll do

As a Software Engineer, you will design, code, test, and debug end-to-end data driven web-based software applications. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams; IT infrastructure, lab automation, wet and dry lab scientists across different therapeutic areas, mostly BE. You will recommend software engineering best practice for building MVPs (Minimum Viable Products), interacting with large codebase legacy and vendor applications. You will build MVP and contribute to large codebase both legacy and vendor system. You will understand BE drug discovery business process and data capture process.

Essential for the role

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering or related field of study, software engineering experience preferable in a data focus environment.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Strong understanding of data structure and algorithm.

  • Proficient with Object oriented paradigm and programming languages preferably Python and understanding of Python libraries for data science.

  • Understanding of software engineering best practice, architecture pattern; monolithic and microservice, and agile software development techniques with test-driven development (TDD)

  • Experience working independently to build MVP software applications, and some familiarity contributing to large codebase.

  • Understanding of data pipeline and ETL process.

  • Familiarity with different tools and cloud service for data enabling application development.

Desirable for the role

  • Postgraduate degree or equivalent in data science, Artificial intelligence, machine learning field of study

  • Experience with frontend development with JavaScript programming language and frontend framework preferably React.

  • Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Development (CI/CD) pipeline.
