Senior SHE Advisor/ Specialist, Science Team (0.6 FTE)

Introduction to Role:
We are seeking a Senior SHE (Safety, Health & Environments) Advisor/ Specialist to join our scientific safety team. This role provides an opportunity to offer scientific safety advice and bring speciality in Biological/Chemical/ Radiation/ Process safety and Industrial Hygiene support to Cambridge Operations.
Accountabilities:
The role holder, as part of the wider SHE function will provide either broader support related to Safety, Health and Environment to a team or function or a comprehensive Safety, Health and Environment related support in one or more area(s) of scientific safety e.g. chemical, radiation, biological/ GM safety, process safety or similar.
Will be also working around these tasks:
Responsible for managing customer needs and expectations across a broad range of services in order to provide a high quality, timely and cost-effective service
Provide technical support to multiple lab or office-based teams on a day-to-day basis ensuring adequate local induction/ instruction and training or acts as a technical owner of a specific area within the Science SHE Team with a deep understanding of processes and equipment employed
Either lead the planning, managing, and monitoring of major Safety, Health and Environment projects from concepts to implementation, or provide expert technical support to project manager
Lead trouble shooting activities to resolve existing problems, make complicated judgements and anticipate future developments in AstraZeneca’s Facilities related needs
Employs prepared information to discuss, plan and help carry out improvement plans, priority setting, incident investigations, safety inspections, quality assurance and performance improvement recommendations
Develop contacts across a range of departments and/or external groups acting as SHE Team representative or other area of responsibility
Essential Skills / Qualification/ Experience:
Education: Degree level in science or equivalent
At least two years' experience of advising or manging Safety, Health and Environment in a large, complex organisation or a similar research experience
Knowledge and ability to apply relevant legislation/developments in the area of Safety Health and Environment, and maintain own professional awareness and development
Holds a professional Occupational Safety and Health certificate or equivalent in health, science or engineering discipline
Strong communication and influencing skills
Project and people management
Evidence of working in a team and customer support role
Desirable Skills/ Experience:
Understanding of multiple aspects of Safety, Health and Environment
Experience of working in a science/ research environment
Holds a diploma in Occupation Safety and Health or willing to achieve this within two years
Membership of the Institute of Occupation Safety and Health or willing to achieve within three years of appointment
