The role will be based at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus; combining world-class biomedical research, patient care and education on a single site location in the heart of Cambridge. This new purpose-built site will bring together the company’s research and development activity in a state-of-the-art strategic R&D center and global corporate headquarters. Are you a highly motivated Scientist with significant hands-on in vivo expertise and practical knowledge of murine tumour models? If so, we invite you to join the Clinical Immuno-Oncology Discovery (CIOD) Team at AstraZeneca. In this role, you will contribute to the advancement of innovative Clinical Immuno-Oncology products by conducting vivarium-based laboratory experiments, developing methodology, and generating and interpreting scientific data in a highly collaborative environment. Accountabilities

As a Scientist in our team, you will be responsible for conducting and delivering hands-on in vivo research. Your work will primarily involve in vivo experimentation allied to specific projects, studies and workstreams. You will also have day-to-day responsibility for hands-on delivery of in vivo experiments and data recording. You will communicate the results to team members and be involved in the interpretation of data. You will also support a team and work collaboratively with project managers to ensure the efficient relay of information and forward translation of data. This is a full-time laboratory-based position where you will be performing independent or collaborative delivery of in vivo experiments to address key questions arising from the CIOD Pipeline.

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • At least a BSc/MSc in a biological science (or equivalent professional experience in a relevant subject area), with significant hands-on in vivo experience.
  • Home Office Licence (Modules A-C) or equivalent qualification for animal work.
  • Experience working under Home Office Regulations (as a Personal Licence Holder).
  • Experience working with murine tumour models within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, or in academia.
  • Willingness to undertake hands-on in vivo work in a vivarium laboratory-based role and to work flexibly, including some weekends.
  • Utmost integrity and ethical standards associated with animal experimentation.
  • Significant hands-on experience with animal handling and procedures including tumour models, standard routes of substance administration.
  • Experience with dissection and tissue collection.
  • Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and record keeping. Ability to independently analyse data with appropriate statistical testing.
  • Detailed proficiency in the English language, both writing and speaking.

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Experience with humanized mouse models / genetically engineered mouse models of cancer.
  • Experience with surgical methods of tumour implantation.
  • Drive and enthusiasm for researching approaches to the therapeutic manipulation of the immune system in oncology settings.
  • Experience with in vivo imaging methods.
