Global Medical Affairs Leader- Medical Advocacy, COPD
The Global Medical Affairs Leader (GMAL) reports directly to the Medical Head of Inhaled COPD and plays a vital strategic business role. As an experienced leader in Medical Affairs, this individual is responsible for developing medical and promotional advocacy activities for our COPD products. Through seasoned cross-functional leadership, they deliver impactful results.
The GMAL’s influence extends globally across AstraZeneca, participating in the Global Medical Team and the Global CFT team, and collaborating with medical personnel in key markets and regions. This role requires someone who can seize opportunities to design and implement high-impact medical advocacy, guideline engagement plans, NGP, and sustainability advocacy plans and will drive our engagement and collaborations with top external experts. The ideal candidate understands market dynamics and can collaborate with regions and countries to drive essential medical initiatives, ensuring exceptional external engagement and partnerships. The objective is to transform healthcare systems, enhance patient pathways, and demonstrate world-class scientific engagement with external experts and key stakeholders.
Expectations of a GMAL include:
Strategy: Design and lead the execution of productglobaldisease and branded advocacy strategies andGuideline engagement plans, and partner with regional and country teams to ensure effective implementation. Develop innovative frameworks to strengthen our external engagement with HCP’s, Payers and PAG’s.
Differentiating Advocacy Confidence Activities: Create and leverage impactful confidence-building activities to support product and disease area activities including medical education, practice change and GDMT pull through initiatives. Optimize the rollout of communications for our data sets and act as an ambassador for our transformative evidence.
Be the Voice of Medical: Develop and deliver compelling enterprise narratives aligned with our medical ambitions across product and disease area strategies.Ensure that all advocacy activities comply with relevant legal, regulatory, and ethical guidelines.
External Presence: Engage and build relationships with leading global thought leaders, societies, patient organizations, and health systems to effectively partner in optimizing patient care. Initiate and lead new partnerships across the healthcare ecosystem from AstraZeneca's perspective.
Essential for the role:
Medical Degree background with 5+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry (Medical, Marketing, R&D, Market access roles), or experience working within a relevant health system setting (clinical, pharmacy, pathway design etc.)
Previousin market medical affairs experience in Respiratory is mandatory,with proven ability to develop and implement advocacy strategies in a local context. Experience working with KOLs, patient advocacy groups, and healthcare organizations.
Proven ability to build internal and external networks and to collaborate across geographies and cultures, ability to develop and implement advocacy strategies in a global context
Evidence generation/data expertise, e.g. clinical trial experience (conducted Ph2, Ph3 or Ph4 studies), and/or substantial RWE experience (world-class registry, experience with RWE for label enhancement, practice changing RWD usage)
Strong work ethic and working relationships with global thought leaders, including key experts and opinion leaders, professional societies and other healthcare industries/organizations
Excellent communicationand presentationskills, with the ability to translate complexscientific data intoimpactfulmessages.
Strong leadership and project management skills, with the capacity to drive initiatives and lead cross-functional
Desirable for the role:
Doctoral level degree: MD, PhD, or PharmD
Expertise in advocacy activities, sustainability and next generation propellants is desirable
Relevant experience beyond Medical affairs (e.g. in a marketing/R&D/Market Access/ CI role)it’sa nice to have.
Experience launching new products or indications, and in developing and launching medicines in key geographies (e.g US, China, Japan)
