Deal Finance is responsible for leading the financial aspects of Business Development and M&A projects within AstraZeneca, including valuation, financial analysis and deal structuring.  In addition, Deal Finance provide dedicated support in the negotiation and execution of transactions globally.

As a key member of Deal Finance, the Director will provide dedicated financial support in evaluating and executing M&A, licensing, spin-out, collaboration and other structured transaction opportunities.  The role would ideally suit a candidate with interest and experience within the pharmaceutical industry and who thrives on delivering in a fast-paced work environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead financial input into business case construction, ensuring that all key issues / sensitivities / risk is evaluated.
  • Lead on deal structuring, including the assessment of transaction value and potential financial terms.
  • Build complex, consistent and accurate transaction models, which accurately reflect of the expected financial statement and tax implications of potential transactions.
  • Evaluate accounting and tax considerations relevant to potential transactions, coordinating functional technical support as required.
  • Present findings, to AZ senior management and other internal decision-making bodies as required.
  • Lead preparation of financial sections of formal papers and briefings to CEO and Senior Executive Team.
  • Actively manage financial due diligence, including coordinating functional technical support as required.
  • Provide dedicated financial support in the negotiation, contracting and execution of transactions.
  • Work across multiple deals at different stages of the deal cycle, utilising excellent time management skills.
  • Mentor and support the training of new and junior members of the Deal Finance team.                                                                                                                           

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Relevant professional financial qualification, such as ACA (with top 6 firm).
  • Expertise in financial analysis, valuation techniques and financial modelling.
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant technical accounting principles, to support efficient deal structuring and evaluation of transaction alternatives.
  • Confident and clear presenter, who can communicate financial recommendations in a concise and impactful manner to both financial and non-financial audiences.
  • Well-developed influencing skills. Experience of face-to-face negotiation in an international business environment an advantage.
  • Energetic, resilient and tenacious. Able to effectively challenge and influence teams to deliver complex projects under tight timelines.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of multifunctional transaction teams
  • Previous experience of working within Biotech or Pharma would be an advantage.
