Summary of the group:

Analytical Sciences plays a crucial role in advancing new biopharmaceutical drug projects to make a positive impact on changing patients’ lives. The analytical sciences team operates in a highly cross disciplinary environment in close collaboration with scientists across Biopharmaceutical Development (BPD), and the wider AstraZeneca organization.

Accountabilities

In this role of Associate Scientist in Protein Characterisation, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of mRNA-based therapeutics. Your responsibilities will include supporting the development of mass spectrometry-based proteomics methods using nano-LC-MS, presenting and discussing experimental results at group/project team meetings, keeping accurate records of all experiments, results, equipment logs and troubleshooting the instruments as necessary. You will also keep up to date with scientific literature and apply knowledge to experimental design and authorize SOPs, reports, and other technical documents.

Essential Skills/Experience:

• BSc (or equivalent experience) biochemistry, chemistry, or biotechnology with a strong understanding of protein chemistry.

• Hands-on laboratory experience in a research or industry environment.

• Experience planning and/or performing analytical experiments to meet project needs.

• Experience with mass spectrometry (LC-MS) to characterise proteins

• Experience working in a collaborative and fast-paced environment, with strong time management skills.

• Experience presenting data to a non-expert audience.

Desirable Skills/Experience:

• MSc, or equivalent

• Practical experience with nano-LC/MS, and/or proteomics

• Experience with MS data analysis software (e.g Skyline, MaxQuant)

• Experience with cell culture and/or bioassays
