Job Description

The opportunity is to join AZ as the Global Commercial Vice President Dyslipidemia, responsible for launching, leading, shaping and delivering the Brand Franchise across AZ.

AZD0780 is an oral, small molecule PCSK9 inhibitor that is being developed by AstraZeneca as an innovative therapy for patients with elevated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels which cannot be controlled by statins alone. AstraZeneca is investigating the potential of AZD0780 as an oral small-molecule for use as a monotherapy or in fixed-dose combinations with other therapies in our extensive portfolio.

The role is based in Boston, US and reports to the SVP, Global CVRM.

As Global VP Dyslipidemia you will be accountable for:

The Brand:

  • The brand strategy including LCM, pricing, medical and commercial strategy
  • The brand’s long range plan, brand strategic plan, Quarterly Business Review performance review and coordinate the external communication with Finance and Investor Relations.
  • Defining and implementing pre-launch and launch activities to drive and deliver global launch performance across markets.
  • Leading the Global Brand Team to include a thorough and well-coordinated input into the brand’s strategy and ensure close integration and flawless execution
  • Continue to drive patient centricity and innovation through all aspects of the brand’s strategy
  • Appropriately manage governance interactions and alignment with the executive board, regional and functional teams.
  • Work closely with the alliance partner, Ionis Pharmaceuticals, to manage responsibilities, mitigate risks, and ensure business objectives are achieved. 
  • Engage with science teams (early, late) to provide commercial strategy and input to commercial assets / LCM opportunities
  • Build a best in class organization to become a respected leader in pharmaceutical industry while cultivating an inclusive high-performance environment that values and leverages diversity.

Industry/Functional Expertise

  • Bachelor’s degree is required with science expertise as preferred
  • At least 15 years of pharmaceutical industry experience
  • Proven success in a global leadership experience, with US experience strongly preferred.
  • Expertise in cardiovascular, renal and metabolic disease areas; Experience in the PCSK9 segment or other innovative LDL-C lowering therapies is desirable
  • Understanding of and adaptable to working variances of different countries and different cultures
  • Track record of leading successful development of brand and/or TA strategies, with clear customer and market insights
  • Experience leveraging clinical data to shape brand strategies and lifecycle planning
  • Product launch experience and success
  • In-depth understanding of multiple markets, including pricing and reimbursement
  • Proven strong influencing skills and stakeholder management
  • Experienced and comfortable working in a matrix environment
  • Successful experience of leading, inspiring, and developing a diverse team
  • Strong interpersonal and team leadership skills, demonstrating flexibility and a proven ability to deal with complexity under time pressure
  • Experience and effectiveness in the presentation of written and verbal business cases to the senior executive teams
  • Experience to create a positive relationship with third parties as an AZ Ambassador at Board and Executive Committee level
  • Demonstrates structured and measured leadership, interactions and decision making during periods of high intensity in external or internal deliberations

Other Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business, marketing or sciences
  • MBA or equivalent

The annual base pay for this position ranges from $311,377 to $467,066. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.  In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
